Husbandry Assistant (LTE) - NEW Zoo

COUNTY OF BROWN

Job Responsibilities Clean and sanitize animal exhibits, prepare diets, and monitor feed inventories. Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen, feed storage areas, and animal hospital facilities. Assist with learning husbandry techniques and gaining animal handling experience. Perform general and preventive maintenance on zoo grounds and facilities, including landscaping, cleaning, mowing, painting, and minor construction. Assist in training and direction of assigned volunteers. Assist in enforcement of park ordinances and public safety. Perform related functions as assigned. Maintain records and observations on the collection, and report status to management. Work 1–3 days per week, including weekends. Qualifications Minimal working knowledge of building and grounds maintenance. Minimal working knowledge of animal husbandry. Minimal knowledge of horticultural and landscaping methods. Knowledge of and ability to utilize a computer and required software (ZIMS, ISIS). Ability to perform heavy manual labor and operate trucks and power equipment. Ability to follow detailed instructions. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to answer inquiries and complaints effectively with tact and courtesy. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public. Ability to work with all species in the zoo collection. Ability to use a firearm and tranquilizer gun. Ability to work the required hours of the position. Benefits: This is an LTE position and there are no benefits associated with the role. Brown County is an E‑Verify employer.
