Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing quality patient care by administering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport as medically prescribed. The therapist evaluates patient conditions, recommends treatment plans, and educates patients during treatment and upon discharge. Responsibilities include operating ventilatory equipment, administering medications, and performing key respiratory functions.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patient conditions and recommend appropriate treatment plans.
• Explain treatment procedures, tests, and equipment to patients.
• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various respiratory devices.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning as needed.
• Monitor oxygenation and ventilation using capnography and oximetry.
• Interpret chest x-rays and conduct pulmonary function studies.
• Assist with respiratory procedures, such as bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
• Perform tracheostomy care and arterial punctures as per policy.
• Document treatment details and communicate with physicians regarding patient progress.
• Maintain all respiratory therapy equipment and ensure proper functioning.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Valid Respiratory Therapist license.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
• Experience with mechanical ventilation and respiratory care procedures.
