Housing Options Officer

Contract & Salary 37 hours per week – 12-month Temporary Contract Grade 7 Salary range £37,649 - £41,121 per annum Overview Test Valley’s housing team is looking for a Housing Options Officer to play a key role in preventing homelessness across the Borough of Test Valley. The role involves working with customers in Andover and Romsey, carrying out in‑depth housing assessments, investigating applications for assistance, and identifying ways to help each customer maintain a home—whether by saving their current residence or finding a new one. Additional responsibilities include supporting Ukrainian and refugee families as required and ensuring the Council meets its legal responsibilities in a busy, pressured environment. Key Responsibilities Work directly with customers to prevent homelessness. Operate within the legal framework and internal policies while conducting housing assessments. Investigate and process applications for assistance and identify solutions to sustain customers’ homes. Support Ukrainian and refugee families as necessary. Maintain a caseload and ensure the Council’s legal responsibilities are met. Collaborate closely with all housing service teams focused on preventing and relieving homelessness. Key Skills & Qualifications Dynamic, customer‑focused, and able to thrive in a busy and demanding environment. Strong desire to help people, providing advice and assistance while managing expectations. Ability to work independently and maintain professional confidence under pressure. Work Location & Flexibility The role is based in Andover and Romsey with some flexibility for home working.
