Job Description

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of industrial equipment to ensure continuous and efficient production operations. This role focuses on performing preventive and predictive maintenance, implementing technical solutions, and supporting manufacturing process improvement initiatives in a high-volume, regulated environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on a variety of industrial equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.

• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues on production and packaging machinery.

• Maintain and repair conveyors, photo eye sensors, packaging equipment, labelers, cappers, fillers, pumps, valves, and other industrial equipment.

• Ensure converting equipment and production lines run consistently and efficiently throughout operating hours.

• Conduct changeovers and equipment setups to support different product runs and packaging configurations.

• Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, dial indicators, and multimeters to diagnose equipment performance and tolerances.

• Perform mechanical repairs and adjustments to motors, including 3-phase motors, and related drive systems.

• Implement technical solutions to improve equipment reliability, safety, and performance.

• Participate in manufacturing process improvement initiatives, providing input on equipment capabilities and constraints.

• Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and FDA-related procedures when working on equipment in regulated production areas.

• Accurately document maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage in computerized systems.

• Collaborate with production and quality teams to prioritize maintenance tasks and support operational goals.

• Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment around machinery and equipment.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 1 year of industrial maintenance experience working with hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, and 3-phase motors.

• Hands-on experience with mechanical maintenance and repair in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

• Ability to perform preventive and predictive maintenance on production and packaging equipment.

• Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems.

• Comfortable performing changeovers, setups, and adjustments on fillers, pumps, valves, and related equipment.

• Proficiency using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, dial indicators, and multimeters.

• High school diploma or GED.

• Computer proficiency in MS Office.

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment.

• Capability to follow GMP and safety guidelines and work within regulated processes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Preferably 3+ years of experience working in a GMP environment.

• Best suited candidates have a minimum of 5 years of related manufacturing experience in an FDA-regulated facility.

• Solid candidates have at least 3 years of experience in a non-FDA manufacturing facility.

• Previous experience in GMP or food manufacturing environments is a plus.

• Experience in liquid filling or packaging operations is highly preferred.

• Background in the food and beverage industry is advantageous due to similar FDA regulatory standards.

• Familiarity with troubleshooting and maintaining packaging lines, conveyors, sensors, and related automation.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to document maintenance activities accurately.

• Willingness to work around strong product-related odors and adapt to different production departments.

Work Environment

This role is based in a large-scale health and beauty care manufacturing and distribution operation that spans nearly a million square feet of production and distribution space. The plant runs around the clock, five days a week, with products distributed nationwide seven days a week, creating a dynamic, high-throughput environment. It is a liquid filling facility, and candidates with liquid filling or packaging experience, especially from food and beverage or other FDA-regulated industries, will find the processes and standards familiar. The facility operates under FDA and GMP guidelines, requiring attention to cleanliness, documentation, and regulatory compliance. Depending on the department, there are strong product-related odors, which may include mouthwash, lotions, alcohol-based products, and other health and beauty formulations, and employees should be comfortable working in areas with noticeable scents. Work is performed on and around conveyors, packaging lines, sensors, and filling equipment in an industrial setting, with a strong emphasis on safety procedures and proper use of tools and machinery.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Smyrna, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr.
