About this position

This position is not involved in direct patient care. The Operating Room Aide (ORA) is responsible for supporting anesthesia providers and the perioperative team while maintaining a clean, safe and efficient surgical environment. This role combines stocking, equipment management, room turnover, environmental cleaning and infection prevention practices to ensure operating room and procedural areas are prepared for patient care.

Accountabilities:

• Efficiently turn over operating rooms in accordance with established infection prevention guidelines to support timely patient flow, minimize surgical delays, and maintain a clean, safe environment for patients and staff. Perform terminal cleaning as needed.

• Assess department needs and ensures supplies are stocked. Including out of department supplies and anesthesia materials.

• Manage inventory of surgical tools and supplies, restocking supplies for the next case.

• Respond to room turnover requests quickly. Disinfect equipment, remove soiled linens and supplies, empty garbage.

• Replenish supplies as needed.

• Check O2 tanks and replace as needed.

• Change used anesthesia circuit and supplies, restock if needed. Set up for next case.

• Handle and dispose of waste according to specific policies and procedures for bio-hazardous materials, sharps containers, and recyclable materials.

• Assist with transporting specimens, returning/obtaining blood products.

• Transport patient with another staff member when needed to facilitate flow within the OR.

• Assist with room set up by gathering necessary equipment for surgical case.

• Accepts other duties as assigned to promote the accomplishment of organizational goals.

• The team member is accountable to demonstrate proficiency for the skills outlined in the appropriate position skills list.

• The team member is accountable to maintain skill proficiency, including improvement where deemed necessary, and upgrading any additional or new skills on the appropriate position skills list.

• Recognizes and complies with legal regulatory, accrediting, and procedural requirements related to area of responsibility.

• Understands and follows principles and standards as outlined in North Memorial’s Corporate Code of Conduct.

• Protects customer and team member privacy and only accesses customer and/or team member related information as needed to perform job duties.

• Reports violations or areas of concern to supervisor or Corporate Compliance Officer via established methods of communication.

• High school diploma or equivalent is required

Experience

Experience

• Prior experience in environmental services (EVS) or housekeeping in a hospital, surgical services, or operating room environment preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to prioritize work while ensuring role expectations and duties are completely timely and accurately.

• Ability to effectively communicate and work in team environment.

• Ability to transport various equipment within the department.
