Construction Project Manager

Overview Job Title : Project Manager, Capital Projects (Construction Project Manager) Work Schedule : 1st Shift | Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Work Arrangement : Onsite Duration : 24 months (Potential Conversion) Location : Burlington, NC Position Summary The Project Manager, Capital Projects, is responsible for leading a portfolio of internal capital projects ranging from approximately $500K to $5M across the company\'s U.S. facilities network, including laboratories, office environments, and regional accessioning spaces. This role manages multiple projects simultaneously and is accountable for delivering projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with business needs, company standards, and operational requirements. Responsibilities Project Delivery: Lead the end-to-end delivery of multiple mid-to-large-sized capital projects across laboratories, office spaces, and regional accessioning facilities. Develop and manage project execution plans, including scope, schedule, budget, procurement strategy, risk management, and communication plans. Coordinate feasibility studies, programming, concept design, and detailed design in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external architects/engineers. Oversee construction and implementation activities, including site logistics, phasing, commissioning, and turnover to operations. Ensure compliance with company standards and life sciences best practices related to laboratory and clinical environments. Serve as the primary point of contact for internal customers, translating business needs into executable project scopes and deliverables. Facilitate project meetings and provide regular status updates to business leaders, stakeholders, and end users. Manage expectations and proactively communicate changes in scope, schedule, and budget. Partner with facilities operations teams to ensure minimal disruption to ongoing operations and patient/client-facing activities. Financial & Risk Management Develop and manage project budgets, cost estimates, and cash flow forecasts. Monitor project expenditures and implement corrective actions when necessary. Support the preparation of business cases, capital funding requests, and executive approval packages. Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks related to schedule, cost, quality, safety, and operations. Review and validate vendor proposals, change orders, and payment applications. Support or lead the selection and management of architects, engineers, contractors, and consultants. Collaborate with Procurement and Legal teams on RFPs, bid evaluations, contract negotiations, and change management. Hold vendors accountable for safety, quality, schedule, cost, and documentation requirements. Governance, Standards & Reporting Ensure adherence to corporate design standards, EHS policies, and quality procedures. Prepare executive-level reports, dashboards, presentations, and project updates. Maintain complete project documentation, including schedules, budgets, risk logs, meeting minutes, and closeout records. Contribute to continuous improvement of project delivery processes and standards. Travel & Multi-Site Coordination Manage projects across multiple U.S. locations. Travel as needed for site reviews, project milestones, stakeholder meetings, and construction oversight. Minimum Qualifications Education Associate Degree in Construction Management or a related field, OR 4 years of active military service, OR 7+ years of commercial construction experience in one of the building trades. Experience 8–10 years of progressive project management experience leading capital construction projects. Experience within life sciences, healthcare, clinical laboratories, pharmaceutical, or other technically intensive environments is highly preferred. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor\'s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Facilities Management, or a related field. Professional certifications such as: PMP (Project Management Professional), CHFM (Certified Healthcare Facility Manager), or other related certifications. Experience managing multiple concurrent projects across different geographies and facility types. Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, including scope, schedule, cost, risk, and change management. Working knowledge of design and construction processes and building systems (MEP). Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical reports. Proficiency with CAD, Revit, or similar drafting software. Strong communication and presentation skills. Ability to engage effectively with internal customers, leadership teams, and external vendors. Highly organized with excellent time-management skills. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities. Collaborative team player with the ability to work across technical, operational, and business functions. Working Conditions Combination of office and active construction site environments. May be required to climb ladders and access rooftops or mechanical equipment. Ability to work outdoors and assess site conditions in varying weather conditions. Frequent walking, bending, and occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs overhead.
