About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1 year License: New York license required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Mandatory competency with phlebotomy Experience placing IVs Description: Registered Nurses need to demonstrate a mandatory competency in phlebotomy as it is a required skill. Placing IVs is essential for all nurses in this role. Nursing ratios during the day and evening shifts are 5 to 1, with a potential stretch to 6-7. Night ratios are expected to be 6-7 to 1, and can stretch to 8-10 if staff calls in. Patient care technicians are available on all units to assist with vital signs, blood glucose checks, ECGs, and activities of daily living. RNs are expected to float within scope to meet facility needs and may float between medical-surgical, intensive care, and emergency departments. The patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as cardiac issues and strokes. Special equipment includes hoyer lifts, and familiarity with computerized documentation systems is preferred. Key skills include the interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and the use of rapid response teams. Isolation precautions and non-invasive airway management knowledge are required. RNs should be able to manage peripheral line care and have competencies in oxygen administration.
