Registered Nurse RN PACU

Overview Methodist Hospital, part of SA Health, is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) in San Antonio. As a key member of our perioperative team, you will provide high‑quality, compassionate care to patients emerging from anesthesia following a wide range of surgical and interventional procedures. Responsibilities In this PACU position, you will be responsible for continuous monitoring and assessment of patients in the immediate post‑operative phase, including evaluation of airway, breathing, circulation, level of consciousness, pain, and overall stability. You will administer IV medications, fluids, and pain management therapies according to standardized protocols and provider orders, while vigilantly watching for and responding to signs of complications such as respiratory compromise, hemodynamic instability, or adverse reactions to anesthesia. Using your critical care assessment skills, you will intervene rapidly when patient conditions change, elevate concerns appropriately, and collaborate closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other members of the interdisciplinary team. Qualifications The successful candidate will bring strong clinical judgment, excellent assessment and monitoring skills, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple patients in a dynamic environment. Experience in PACU, ICU, emergency, or step‑down settings is highly valued, as is comfort with cardiac rhythm interpretation, airway management, and rapid recognition of deteriorating conditions. Proficiency with electronic health record documentation, adherence to infection prevention and medication safety practices, and commitment to regulatory and hospital quality standards are essential.
