Field Service Technician 3 - Compact Construction Equipment Department: Machine Division (MAC) Employment Type: Full Time Location: Anna Reporting To: Richard Frederick Description The Field Service Technician III provides face‑to‑face customer service located at an off‑site location and is responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and reconditioning various light and heavy construction equipment. To be considered for the Field Service Technician role the incumbent must have a valid driver’s license, a safe driving history, and the ability to pass a DOT physical. The work location is 451 E. Outer Loop Road, Anna, TX 75409. Essential Functions Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards Performs basic to intermediate repairs and minimal troubleshooting offsite with minimal supervision Performs basic to intermediate troubleshooting and minimal diagnoses of equipment malfunctions and failures Removes and installs parts, disassembles and assembles components per CAT specifications Tests, makes adjustments, and verifies proper operation of all repairs and adjustments Prepares and completes all job‑related documents, writes service reports, orders parts, and maintains clear customer records; accesses databases required to complete job Operates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates Maintains service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections and driver logs as required by the Department of Transportation Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations Maintains all company equipment, tools, and vehicle in a good, clean, and working order Communicates job progress to supervisor and customer as needed Completes assigned jobs and tasks to meet flat‑rate time and re‑work standards Works overtime as required by workload and customer needs Completes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner Projects professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance; may be relied upon to act as a mentor to lower‑level technicians Requires regular and punctual employee attendance Performs other duties as assigned The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices on a daily basis: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company’s mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self‑development. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Candidates must have at least 3 years of field or shop service tech troubleshooting and repair skills in Compact Construction Equipment, such as Skid Steers and smaller construction equipment (mini excavators.) Knowledge of safe work procedures and practices Knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance Intermediate knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, engines, undercarriage, and electrical Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and knowledge of machine electronic systems – CAT ET & CAT SIS 2.0 Exceptional skill in customer service Intermediate diagnostic and trouble‑shouting skills Planning and organizing skills to prioritize and plan work activities; uses time efficiently; plans for additional resources Operation and control skills of equipment or systems Equipment selection skills to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing Ability to operate a crane and forklift, and obtain required certifications/licenses Ability to meet deadlines and work under fast‑paced, time‑constraining circumstances Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects Requirements Education and Experience: More than three years of heavy equipment experience required; five or more years preferred. MSHA certification, air conditioning certification, and crane/rigger certifications preferred. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Travel: Travel required with a possibility of an overnight stay. Additional Requirements: Valid driver’s license required and a safe driving record for the past 3 years; must be able to pass a DOT physical and maintain a DOT medical card; must own required tools to perform repairs. Physical Requirements: Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lb; constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina; ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself using both hands and feet; climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment; be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment; routinely react to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work. Work Environment: Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment; works outdoors around moving mechanical parts and noise level may be loud; may be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity; exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high‑pressure water, and high‑speed rotating equipment; required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places.
