Phlebotomist I – Overview Phlebotomist I is responsible for accurately collecting patient specimens for diagnostic testing in a variety of clinical settings, including outpatient, emergency, and inpatient environments. The role requires adherence to laboratory compliance and safety regulations while demonstrating empathy and effective communication with patients and their families. Responsibilities Accurately collect patient specimens using techniques such as venipuncture, capillary puncture, PIVO, and throat swabs. Work in fast‑paced hospital settings and high/low volume clinics with varying patient acuities, including newborns, intensive care patients, and general ward patients. Follow personal protective equipment requirements and standard safety protocols. Communicate procedures and instructions clearly to patients and family members. Engage in training and mentoring new staff, participate in code response teams, and support laboratory operations. Assist with on‑call shifts and holiday rotations as needed by department or facility. Qualifications BLS certification required. High school diploma or equivalent (preferred). Minimum six months of phlebotomy experience, phlebotomy training, or national certification approved by manager/supervisor. Communicate verbally with patients and healthcare providers. Lift and transfer patients; push or pull gurneys and equipment up to 50lb. Stand, walk, and ambulate patients for extended periods. Perform frequent computer use and typing for documentation. Location & Compensation Holladay Clinic, Salt Lake City, Utah. Scheduled 40 hours per week.
