Registered Nurse (RN) - Stepdown Unit

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) with experience in stepdown care to join our team. This position involves working in a fast-paced unit focused on providing high-quality patient care to individuals with varying medical needs.

Shift Details

• Bed Capacity: 40 beds with an average daily census of 24
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:4-5 for both day and night shifts

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in a stepdown unit.
• Titrate drips as needed, including heparin, nitroglycerin, dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin.
• Read and interpret telemetry strips; RNs are required to perform these tasks independently.
• Care for patients requiring high-flow oxygen therapy and troubleshoot respiratory equipment.
• Collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Participate in orientation and pass a nursing skills exam during the onboarding process.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a stepdown or similar unit.
• Required Certifications:
  
  
  • ACLS
  • BLS Certification
  • NIHSS
• Competency in handling arterial lines is necessary.
• Must have a valid driver's license for confirmation of residency outside a 50-mile radius.

This unit serves a diverse patient population, primarily Hispanic and Somalian, and emphasizes the importance of effective communication and cultural competence. The success of our nurses relies heavily on their ability to work collaboratively, remain flexible, and adapt to feedback for continuous improvement.

Additional Information

• Overhead and portable lifts are equipped in half of the rooms.
• Use of portable devices such as vein finders and bladder scanners is expected.
• Weekend shifts are required every other week, and a minimum of 2 holidays during the contract period is expected.
• RTO needs to be communicated upfront, with a maximum of 7 days per 13-week contract; no additional time off will be approved after submission.
