JOB SUMMARY
Under direct supervision, performs accounting clerical work; involving the maintenance or review of financial and statistical records; and performs related work as required.
Class Characteristics: This is the entry-level classification in the fiscal series. Employees in this class receive on-the-job training; assignments are generally limited in scope and are set within procedural frameworks established by higher level positions. As experience accrues, the incumbent performs with increasing independence. Work requires incumbents to exercise some judgment in selecting appropriate established guidelines to follow. Significant deviations require prior approval. Interpretation of general administrative or operational policies is sometimes necessary. It is distinguished from the next higher class of Account Technician I in that the latter has broader or more technical assignments which require greater technical knowledge in processing financial and statistical records. The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill any future opening(s) of this classification or other similar classifications, including Part-Time and Extra Help, for up to nine months.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other related duties may be required and assigned. 1. Performs various accounting clerical tasks, compiles data; prepares/proofs time entries, quarterly statements, billings, posts journal entries, warrants, claims, correspondence, authorization/distributions, spreadsheets and related materials.
2. Receives monies and prepares deposits; posts, checks, balances, and adjusts accounts; distributes costs and materials to appropriate accounts; reconciles bank statements.
4. Organizes and maintains computerized database; prepares and maintains confidential files; researches and retrieves files as needed; enters financial information onto a spreadsheet.
5. Answers telephones to answer inquiries and/or refer to appropriate personnel, and process mail.
6. Allocates monies on to ledger using State and Federal regulations.
7. Prepares claim forms for reimbursement and monthly financial report.
8. Trains and assists other clerical personnel when assigned
9. May schedule appointments and interview clients to gather account information and/or verify eligibility.
10. Performs related duties as assigned. EXAMPLES OF MARGINAL DUTIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The following are the minimum qualifications for this position. Possession of these qualifications does not ensure that an applicant will be interviewed. Applications will be reviewed in comparison with all other applications received. Knowledge of:
Basic accounting and bookkeeping practices; the methods, practices and terminology used in financial and statistical record keeping; basic excel functions.
Ability to:
Compile, organize, prepare and maintain an assortment of records, reports and information in an effective manner and according to departmental and/or governmental regulations; post and make arithmetical computations rapidly and accurately; follow oral and written directions; meet the public to receive and impart information; comprehend and apply departmental regulations and procedures; utilize and understand computer applications and techniques necessary for completion of daily assignment.
Education and Experience:
One (1) year of full-time experience working with financial or statistical records;
OR
Fifteen (15) semester units or twenty-two (22) quarter units that include coursework in accounting which can include basic financial and statistical recordkeeping;
OR
Two (2) years of full-time clerical experience equivalent to an Office Assistant in Sutter County;
OR
Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Essential Duties require the following physical skills and work requirements: Requires the ability to maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of exercising sound judgment and rational thinking under varied circumstances; the ability to exert a small amount of physical effort in sedentary to light work involving moving from one area of the office to another; ability to see; ability to hear and communicate orally; requires sufficient hand/eye coordination to perform semi-skilled repetitive movements, such as using a computer, typing, data entry or use of other office equipment or supplies. Work is primarily performed in an office environment, and the position may require prolonged periods of computer and monitor use.
Disaster Service Workers:
All Sutter County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to perform certain emergency services at the direction of the department and/or County.
License or Certificate:
This classification may require a valid California driver's license.
