Job Description and Duties This position will be required to report to the Richmond, CA headquarters office and will lead data management activities for the Surveillance and Data Management Unit (SDMU) within the Office of STIs and HCV (OSH). The Research Scientist will conceive, plan, conduct, organize, and lead moderately complex surveillance and statistical analyses of STI, mpox, HCV, HIV/STI/mpox/HCV coinfection and other emerging infections, using established guidelines, research methods, and techniques. The incumbent will develop data processing procedures and write complex computer programs (SAS, RStudio, RShiny, RWorkbench, SQL, PowerBI, Tableau) to assure data quality, analyze data extracts, produce tables, presentation materials, and maps depicting spatial distribution of STI cases, and write scientific reports summarizing findings for program use. Under general supervision, the Research Scientist disseminates results, findings, and policy recommendations to management, staff, contractors, external partners, and federal funders at professional meetings, conferences, and publishes research in scientific journals and California statewide reports. Moderate overnight travel is required. Requirements New to California State Service or existing state employee with transfer eligibility must take and pass the examination for this classification.
