Employee Relations Investigator

Perform impartial, fact-based investigations of suspected misconduct and policy violations, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, bullying, and Winning with Integrity policy violations Own the end-to-end investigation process from planning through closure, including fact-finding, analysis, and report writing Develop investigative plans covering scope, participant lists, and timelines Execute and document investigations according to professional standards and GM investigation protocols Communicate investigation results clearly and promptly to HR, leaders, Legal, and other stakeholders Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Labor Relations, Legal, Audit, Security, Operations, and other constituencies Partner with HR Policy on post-investigation strategies, employment-action equity, and proactive training to mitigate future risk Draft clear, concise, high-quality investigation reports synthesizing facts, policy standards, analysis, and conclusions Manage cases from assignment through fact-finding, analysis, and report completion while balancing urgency and quality Maintain accurate and timely case documentation, handle and store evidence appropriately, comply with record-retention requirements, and apply investigation quality standards consistently Evaluate internal controls and procedures to identify gaps or process improvements related to people, policy, or culture Recommend investigative-process changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness Maintain confidentiality and communicate openly, honestly, and promptly with personnel involved in investigations and projects Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Criminal Justice, or a related field, or a minimum of 5 years of equivalent experience At least 5 years of professional experience in Human Resources, Corporate Global Investigations, Labor Relations, Legal, or Compliance Minimum of 3 years conducting workplace investigations into discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and other policy violations Ability to identify and develop sources of information relative to the subject of the investigation Ability to conduct effective informational and interrogatory interviews with reporters, subjects, and witnesses at all levels of the organization Ability to evaluate systems of internal control and related procedures to identify potential gaps or process improvements Ability to recommend changes in investigative processes while maintaining quality standards Maintain open, honest, and timely communication with personnel involved in investigations/projects Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information Managerial courage demonstrated through effective, direct, and respectful communication Ability to collaborate, build relationships, gain credibility, and partner effectively within a matrixed organization Ability to investigate objectively Critical thinking and ability to present the best course of action succinctly Exceptional organizational, analytical, leadership, and interpersonal skills Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple complex investigations concurrently Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including drafting clear, concise investigation reports and summaries Demonstrated ability to handle high-risk, sensitive matters with discretion, judgment, and composure Knowledge of the automotive industry environment and business needs is a plus Experience working with represented/hourly workforces, such as a UAW or similar union environment, is a plus GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship; applicants must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in conducting impartial workplace investigations, including discrimination and harassment cases, while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to professional standards.
