Medical Assistant

The Medical Assistant operates under the supervision of licensed nurses, physicians, or advanced practice providers, delivering patient care with professionalism, attention to detail, and excellent customer service. The role requires multitasking, critical thinking, and adaptability in a fast-paced setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control and safe patient handling.
• Escort patients, obtain vital signs, perform EKGs, verify medications and allergies, and document medical histories and visit reasons accurately and promptly.
• Manage phone communications, relay messages, and assist with patient inquiries and test result follow-ups.
• Support medication renewals, authorizations, and administration (oral, IM, SQ) as ordered.
• Conduct point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Schedule appointments, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures as directed by providers.
• Complete necessary paperwork, prior authorizations, referrals, and documentation efficiently.
• Maintain supply inventory, clean and stock exam rooms, and assist patients with electronic health record portal enrollment and education.
• Help orient and train new medical assistants, demonstrating teamwork and accountability.

Education

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program, or equivalent experience.
• High school diploma required.

Experience

• Preferred: One year of experience as a Medical Assistant or medical specialist, ideally in a clinical setting.

Certification and Licenses

• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential preferred.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Mental and Physical Requirements

• Requires significant mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs, standing, walking, and various movements such as stooping and reaching.

Working Conditions

• Frequent exposure to infectious diseases and occasional encounters with challenging individuals.
• Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other bodily fluids.
• Minimal physical discomfort expected.
