Benefits Health Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance Long-Term Disability Insurance 11 Paid Sick Days a Year 6 Personal Business Days a Year 10 Vacation Days a Year, increasing with longevity up to 20 Days a Year Retirement Benefits Optional benefits: retirement investment accounts, Flexible Spending Account, Health Savings Account, short term disability Purpose Statement The job of Custodian is to provide custodial services at the assigned site; ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors; performing special cleaning operations; overseeing preparation of facilities for classroom activities and campus events; overseeing and supporting assigned custodians in the performance of their assignments; and ensuring that assignments are completed safely, properly, and in a timely manner. Essential Functions Assists with site snow removal and treating icy surfaces to ensure access and safety. Cleans assigned facilities and/or grounds for maintaining a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment. Consults with administrative personnel for planning, prioritizing, and scheduling custodial activities and achieving site maintenance objectives. Delivers a variety of items to the appropriate parties within the site. Distributes custodial supplies and equipment to custodial staff and/or storage locations. Informs students and other site personnel about activities, safety issues, and proper maintenance of facilities and equipment. Inspects facilities to ensure suitability for safe operations, maintain attraction and cleanliness, and identify necessary repairs. Maintains supplies and equipment for availability of custodial items to properly maintain facilities. Monitors students and staff in and around work areas to prevent injuries and ensure site safety. Oversees facility maintenance activities and assigned custodial personnel to ensure efficient compliance with site requirements and standards. Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars to convey and gather information required to perform job functions. Participates in training and drills (fire, intruder, earthquake, health and safety) to ensure emergency procedures are in order and alarm systems are functional. Performs minor maintenance on custodial equipment, classroom furniture, and fixtures to ensure proper functioning. Prepares written materials (supply requisitions, safety inspections, work orders, inventory records, time sheets) for documentation and reporting to administration. Prepares site for daily operations (opening gates, raising flags, sweeping walkways) to ensure operational and hazard-free facilities. Replenishes classroom and restroom supplies to ensure adequate daily quantities. Requisitions equipment, supplies, and materials to maintain availability and efficiency. Responds to immediate safety and operational concerns, taking appropriate action or notifying personnel for resolution. Responds to inquiries from staff, students, parents, and visitors, providing information and directing appropriately. Secures facilities and grounds to minimize property damage, equipment loss, or liability. Supports other site maintenance staff to complete custodial activities. Trains assigned personnel to develop professional trade and safety awareness skills. Transports tools, equipment, supplies, etc., to ensure availability at the job site. Other Functions Performs related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Skills: Operating equipment and materials used in industrial maintenance; adhering to safety practices; preparing and maintaining accurate records. Knowledge: Basic math (fractions, percents, ratios); reading manuals; writing documents in prescribed formats; understanding complex written and oral instructions; methods of industrial cleaning (floor and carpet); basic tools for minor repairs; safety practices and procedures. Abilities: Scheduling activities, meetings, or events; gathering and collating data; considering factors when using equipment; flexibility to work with others; problem solving to identify issues and create action plans; adapting to changing work priorities; meeting deadlines and schedules. Responsibilities Working under direct supervision using standardized routines; leading, guiding, and coordinating others; operating within a defined budget; utilizing resources from other work units; having the opportunity to impact the organization’s services. Working Environment Physical demands include significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and fine finger dexterity. The job requires 15% sitting, 35% walking, and 50% standing, with minimal temperature variations and potential exposure to injury or illness.
