Clinical Laboratory ScientistJob Summary: The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing moderately complex and complex laboratory tests, as defined by CLIA, in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, microbiology, blood bank and serology. Professional application of the principles, theories, techniques, and quality controls of laboratory science is used. This position reports to the lead clinical laboratory scientist, laboratory manager/supervisor, and/or the administrative director of Laboratory services. Actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication.Qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered for employment in accordance with the Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance for Employers and the California Fair Chance ActEssential Functions:Follows the hospital's policies and procedures and documents their review.Ensure all daily Quality controls (QC) (or as required, Levy-Jennings and Westgard Rules) is acceptable before releasing patient results.Performs and documents all maintenance, temperatures, specimen rejection and troubleshooting, conforms to schedules and completion of work, leaves little for the next shift.Maintains the inventory of supplies and reagents.Participates in the laboratories in-service and competency assessment programs.Help train and orient new team members.Conforms to schedules and completion of work, leaves little for the next shift.Performs other duties assigned by the lead CLS/lab manager/supervisor/lab administrative director.Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external.Uses AIDET in interactions with patients and family members.Acts with a sense of urgency when performing tasks.Basic unit/department maintenance such as keeping files, drawers, cabinets free from unnecessary clutter.Reports on any equipment and or environmental issues for repair.Abides by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.Speaks up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary.Completes and attends monthly training assigned.Other duties as assigned.Behavioral Standards:Treats everyone as their customer; safely manages the environment of care by demonstrating a working knowledge of the requirements of the: Life Safety program, Utilities Management program, Hazardous Materials program, Emergency Preparedness program, Safety Management program, Medical Equipment Management program, Security Management program.Qualifications/Experience:A minimum of six (6) months' experience in an accredited hospital laboratory in at least two (2) laboratory sections preferred.Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, strong organizational skills, ability to follow verbal instructions, and PC (computer) skills.A capacity to learn, synthesize, make critical judgments, work independently, place patients and families first, and collaborate with the team members who are recognized leaders within healthcare.The following Experience is Acceptable:Licensed as a MT (Medical Technologist), or MLS (Medical Laboratory Scientist), CLT (Clinical Laboratory Technician).ASCP, NCA (merged with ACP) and AMT certifications for work in a clinical laboratory setting that does not require state licensure outside of California.Military Facility with proof of military clinical experience.Medical Facilities outside the United States and territories that are CAP (College of American Pathologist) and The Joint Commission accredited are acceptable.Education:Doctoral, Masters or Bachelors degree in a Chemical, Biological, Clinical or Medical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology from accredited school.Falls within the CMS interpretive guidelines for education requirements.All foreign degrees must be accompanied by a confirmation letter certifying that your education is US equivalent.
