Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey serves girls in grades K–12 across Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, and northern Warren counties. Our mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. The Girl Scout DreamLab at 300 Forest Avenue in Paramus, NJ, is an interactive program and community space where Girl Scouts and other young people explore STEM, creativity, cooking, content creation, leadership, and more.

Position Summary

The Per Diem Program Facilitator leads and supports hands-on DreamLab programs and events for children, teens, families, troops, and school or community groups. Facilitators follow activity plans, prepare materials, guide participants, maintain an inclusive and safe environment, and help with setup and cleanup. Assignments vary by program and may include after-school sessions, evening and weekend events, school field trips, homeschool programming, and Caregiver & Me activities. Training, activity plans, and program support are provided. Facilitators do not need to be experts in every subject but should be willing to learn and work across program areas.

Location: Girl Scout DreamLab, 300 Forest Avenue, Paramus, NJ

Schedule: Per diem shifts based on program needs and availability. Most opportunities are weekdays after school, generally 3:30 PM–8:00 PM, and Saturdays and Sundays, generally 9:00 AM–5:00 PM. Occasional weekday daytime shifts are available.

Pay: $22.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on assignment and experience. This position is not eligible for benefits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Facilitate engaging, age-appropriate activities using provided plans and materials; adapt instruction and pacing to participant needs while preserving program goals.

• Support programs across DreamLab areas such as STEM and robotics, cooking, art and creative making, podcasting and digital media, life skills, leadership, and Girl Scout badge experiences.

• Supervise participants throughout assigned activities and follow applicable safety, child supervision, food handling, and equipment procedures; communicate concerns promptly to DreamLab leadership.

• Welcome participants and caregivers, give clear directions, encourage collaboration and participation, and foster an inclusive environment for a range of ages and abilities.

• Prepare supplies and equipment, set up and reset activity spaces, maintain orderly materials, and complete cleanup at the end of each assignment.

• Work with other facilitators and DreamLab staff to run programs, field trips, troop visits, parties, family events, and other scheduled activities.

• Complete attendance records, incident documentation, program feedback, and other assigned paperwork accurately and on time.

• Communicate supply needs, participant feedback, program outcomes, and operational issues to DreamLab staff; perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old and able to work reliably at assigned sessions, including setup and cleanup time.

• Experience working with children or teens in education, youth development, camps, recreation, Girl Scouting, or a related setting.

• Ability to explain activities clearly, manage a group, collaborate with colleagues, and communicate professionally with families and community partners.

• Flexibility to learn new activities and facilitate across different subjects and age groups; comfort using or learning program equipment with training.

• Availability for some weekday after-school, evening, or weekend shifts; occasional weekday daytime availability is helpful.

• First Aid certification for girl-specific programs, or ability to obtain it before those assignments.

• Membership in GSUSA upon employment and annually thereafter (cost covered by the Council).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience or enthusiasm in robotics, coding, 3D printing, makerspace activities, cooking, art and crafts, Cricut, podcasting, photography, or digital media.

• Experience facilitating Girl Scout programs or bilingual programming in Spanish.

• Ability to take a lead role in an assigned program, coordinating activities and supporting other facilitators when needed.
