Job Title: General Laborer / Material Handler – Automation Installation Project

Job Description

This short-term role supports a large automation upgrade project by installing robotic arms and related equipment in a high-volume distribution facility. You will assist with assembly, material handling, basic construction tasks, and site housekeeping while working closely with project teams to build and commission robotic systems on the warehouse loading docks.

Responsibilities

• Install robotic arms on loading docks, including approximately 20 robotic arms, 40 substations, and internal site fencing.
• Assist in building and assembling robotic arms, stations, and related components according to diagrams and instructions.
• Use pallet jacks to move, strap, and catalogue materials, including transporting materials via elevators as needed.
• Operate hand tools and air-powered tools to commission towers and equipment following detailed diagrams and step-by-step instructions.
• Run wiring for power supply to products and equipment under guidance, ensuring proper routing and basic safety practices.
• Support heavy project teams with commissioning activities, general labor tasks, and material movement throughout the facility.
• Perform general warehouse duties such as sweeping, cleaning, organizing work areas, and maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
• Follow all safety protocols and site rules, including wearing required personal protective equipment and using tools correctly.
• Work across multiple positions as needed, including inventory support, housekeeping, general labor, basic construction, loading, packaging, and cleaning.
• Communicate effectively with project managers, installers, and other general labor/material handling teammates to coordinate daily tasks.
• Follow directions accurately and consistently, asking questions when needed to ensure work is completed correctly.
• Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality throughout the 6–8 week project, with potential for extension based on project needs.

Essential Skills

• Previous warehouse experience.
• Industrial general labor experience in a physically demanding environment.
• Ability to lift 40–50 lbs consistently throughout the shift.
• Comfort working 8 hours per day on a hard cement floor.
• Strong attendance record with reliability and punctuality.
• Ability to follow directions well and work independently once trained on processes.
• Basic ability to read and follow blueprints or diagrams.
• Understanding of basic safety practices in an industrial or construction-like setting.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand tools and air-powered tools.
• Ability to communicate clearly with team members and project leadership.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working on similar large-scale automation or distribution center projects.
• Experience with robotics or automation installations is a plus.
• Experience in general labor, construction, loading, packaging, or industrial cleaning.
• Willingness to rotate between roles such as inventory support, housekeeping, and material handling as project needs change.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain perfect or near-perfect attendance during time-bound projects.
• Comfort working in busy, under-construction warehouse environments that may be noisy, crowded, and physically demanding.

Work Environment

Work takes place in a multi-level distribution center that is under construction, with mezzanine and sub-mezzanine work areas. The environment can be messy, loud, and sometimes crowded, with a mix of air-conditioned and open-air spaces that may be hot in the summer. The work is highly physical, involving extensive walking on cement floors, frequent lifting, and continuous movement throughout the shift. You will interact regularly with project managers, approximately 22 installers, and a team of general laborers and material handlers. The standard schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch, typically five days per week for about 40 hours weekly. Dress code includes jeans, safety-toe shoes or boots, and T-shirts, avoiding loose or baggy clothing. High-visibility vests, safety glasses, hard hats, gloves, and ear plugs are provided and must be worn as required to maintain a safe and professional presence on site.

This is a Contract position based out of Fort Wayne, IN.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
