Powell is a manufacturer of switchgear and electrical equipment. We are seeking a Quality Inspector for our Houston, TX location. Schedule: Monday–Thursday 6:45am–5:15pm. Essential Responsibilities Learn and perform internal and customer factory acceptance testing, including visual, mechanical, and electrical inspections and testing of all equipment manufactured at Powell facilities according to Powell Standards. Perform tests using equipment such as multimeter, clamp‑on‑meter, voltage detector, Hi‑Pot, etc. Program and operate electronic equipment such as microprocessor‑based relays. Energize Powell electrical products and other buyout equipment such as service panels, HVAC, battery chargers, UPS systems, etc. Perform equipment failure investigations and root cause analysis. Complete and maintain all test quality control documentation as required. Perform maintenance on test equipment as needed. Interact with all departments (sales, engineering, production control, fabrication, PCR, switchgear, shipping) and customers to resolve quality‑related issues. Record engineering and shop discrepancies, non‑conformities, and material shortages utilizing Powell systems. Participate in continuous improvement projects. Promote a safety culture and attend safety meetings. Ensure employees, suppliers, and customers adhere to safety rules and PPE requirements. Ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identifying any potential risks to product quality. Keep work areas clean and well organized. Learn and understand basic electrical principles and relevant mechanical experience. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED, or a trade school diploma or certificate. 1–3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment. Ability to read engineering documentation and drawings including specification sheets, wiring diagrams, schematics, three‑line drawings, wiring lists and part drawings. Preferred Qualifications Experience in quality inspection for electrical or electronic equipment or components. Basic experience working with industry codes and standards and ability to refer to applicable codes. Skills, Abilities & Other Requirements Apply industry standards as applicable to job and product. Interpret electrical symbols, characters, and drawings. Apply product knowledge and technical skills to problem solving. Basic computer skills using Oracle, Word, Excel, and Access. Answer technical questions from shop, inspectors, and customers. Interact regularly with shop, inspection, engineering, sales, and shipping personnel. Seek self‑development through internal or external programs. Demonstrate integrity and ethical decision‑making. Be conscientious, thorough, accurate, and reliable when performing job tasks. Work effectively within a team and across departments. Learn and adhere to all manufacturing policies and practices to ensure ISO compliance. Proficient in the English language, both written and verbal. Working & Environmental Conditions Safety‑sensitive position in a temperature‑controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities. Requires wearing personal protective equipment (hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses, respirators) as required. Desk and computer work in an office environment is required. Must be able to work from all types of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders, and extension ladders) and scaffolding, usually no higher than 30ft. Work involves maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling, bending, repetitive arm movements, continuous standing, walking, climbing stairs, applying force up to 50lbs, and using hand tools such as tin snips, hammer, and power tools.
