The Network Engineer IV provides advanced network engineering and operational support for DOI/IA enterprise network environments, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, VoIP, and security-related infrastructure. This role supports design, configuration, administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization of Cisco-based network services and enterprise security technologies. The position also supports project-based work involving upgrades, implementations, testing, documentation, and network modernization efforts. Responsibilities Provide advanced support for DOI/IA enterprise network environments, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, VoIP, and related network services. Install, configure, monitor, and troubleshoot Cisco firewalls, switches, wireless controllers, access points, and related network devices. Support NGFW, IDS, IPS, content filtering, RADIUS, TACACS, 802.1X, and VPN solutions. Design, configure, and troubleshoot enterprise routing protocols, QoS policies, priority queuing, VLANs, and NetFlow-based network management. Monitor network performance, capacity, fault conditions, and availability and recommend improvements. Support software changes, firmware upgrades, patching, and configuration updates in accordance with approved procedures. Assist with network diagrams, operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, and technical documentation. Support monthly and ad hoc network reporting, performance reviews, and operational status updates. Coordinate with engineers, support teams, and onsite personnel to resolve incidents and support deployments. Support testing, pilot environments, and evaluation of new network technologies. Contribute to project planning, define goals, identify resources, and coordinate enterprise network deployments. Support project-based tasks involving upgrades, implementation, optimization, testing, and operational improvement. Provide network performance and capacity reports Ensure all network components are fully operational, and warranty and service contracts are current. Conduct monthly reviews of network operations, fault conditions, and proposed changes Establish automated network management procedures that can rapidly respond to network fault conditions. Provide Level 3 and 4 support to network administrators to resolve network-related problems. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience. 3+ years of experience with firewall and network security solutions including NGFW, IDS, IPS, content filtering, RADIUS, TACACS, 802.1X, and VPN solutions. 3+ years of experience in network design and support in a Cisco networking environment. Minimum associate-level network vendor certification, such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). Ability to obtain Public Trust Preferred Qualifications: Hands-on experience implementing and administering Cisco firewalls, Cisco switches (IOS and NX-OS), wireless controllers, and access points. Experience supporting BGP, MPLS, IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack, VoIP, or wireless network environments. Familiarity with Zero Trust, SD-WAN, SASE, DNS/DNSSEC, content filtering, and secure remote connectivity solutions. Experience with network performance monitoring, capacity planning, and threshold tuning. Familiarity with STIGs, CISA vulnerability remediation timelines, configuration management, and change control. Experience developing procedures, work instructions, and standardized documentation. Experience supporting project-based network implementation or modernization initiatives. Relevant Cisco, network security, or wireless certifications are preferred. Ability to obtain and maintain required government suitability or clearance, if applicable. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to design, configure, and troubleshoot enterprise routing protocols, QoS policies, priority queuing, VLANs, and NetFlow network management. Experience with infrastructure design, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting. Ability to prioritize and multitask across multiple assignments and projects. Ability to contribute to project planning activities, define goals, identify resources, and coordinate engineers on deployments. Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge of enterprise network engineering and operations practices. Knowledge of Cisco routing, switching, wireless, firewall, and network security technologies. Knowledge of QoS, VLANs, NetFlow, VPN, authentication, and access control solutions. Skill in troubleshooting complex network performance, routing, and connectivity issues. Skill in preparing technical procedures, diagrams, reports, and project documentation. Ability to coordinate technical tasks across engineers and support teams. Ability to communicate effectively with technical staff, leadership, and stakeholders. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to contribute to project planning activities, including defining goals within the network and telecom space. Identifies resources needed and can coordinate with engineers to accomplish enterprise deployments. Capacity to define procedures, work instructions or other methods for sharing knowledge and achieving consistent results.
