Position Details: Work Shift: Day Shift (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Department: Perioperative Services Overview of Position: Responsible for the management function of planning, organizing, staffing, scheduling, directing, controlling, coordinating, evaluating, and reporting of activity on a particular nursing unit or floor. ESSENTIAL DUTIES 1. Analyzes department related information regarding operations, budgets, personnel reports, and / or other activities and develops action plans based on identified trends and variances. 2. Effectively prepares reports and correspondence within specified time frames involving synthesizing information, writing text, and preparing final communications. 3. Maintains an effective system for managing and retrieving information to enhance operational efficiency (i.e. personnel files are organized and up to date). 4. Demonstrates effective human resources management. Responsible for appropriate recruitment, selection, and retention of staff, attempting to minimize turnover of productive employees. 5. Delegates effectively by establishing clear expectations, knowledge to do the job with appropriate follow-up mechanisms while maintaining accountability. 6. Facilitates development of staff and motivates them to meet organizational, departmental, and professional commitments. 7. Functions as supplement to acute care nursing as required. 8. Demonstrates understanding of operational issues in areas of responsibility providing support as needed for staff. 9. Coordinates the admission, discharge, and transfer process. 10. Participates in interdisciplinary development of evidence-based patient standards of care and the collection and analysis of patient outcomes. Includes facilitating participation of staff in same. 11. Develops, implements, and evaluates systems and processes that complement the overall system for performance improvement. QUALIFICATIONS 1. BSN and current Ohio RN License. 2. CPR certification required. 3. Two (2) years previous inpatient acute care experience required. 4. Knowledge of medical terminology, levels of care, treatment modalities, and the present health care delivery system. 5. High degree of skill in interpersonal relations with the ability to deal effectively on a one-to-one and group basis with physicians, nursing staff, administration, and other hospital departments. 6. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. 7. Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures. 8. Ability to manage multiple projects at one time. 9. Ability to coach employees and promote nursing excellence. 10. Strong strategic and critical thinking skills with ability to foster teamwork and process change. 11. Self-motivated and able to complete assigned tasks with minimal direction. PATIENT CENTERED CARE & BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS 1. Promotes Patient and Employee Safety Demonstrates safe Patient Handling (i.e. transfers, transport, care administration, nutrition, medication, etc.) Demonstrates safe Materials Handling (i.e. appropriate use and disposal of chemicals, infectious wastes, etc.) Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of Infectious Disease precautions and use of proper protective equipment Demonstrates Slips/Trips and Falls Awareness. Actively contributes to maintaining a safe, clean and quiet environment. 1. Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
2. Will travel to all floors. May be required to drive to other locations. Answers telephone calls, uses personal computer, other business machines and medical equipment, which require the ability to apply finger dexterity. Individual bends, reaches, pushes and pulls.
3. Regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
4. Vision abilities required include up close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
5. Required to rotate shifts and regular days off. All system employees must be willing to work all shifts, extra hours, holidays and emergency shifts as required.
