Surgical Technician

This is a 13-week contract position.

Varied 12-hour day/evening shifts. On-call required.

The Surgical Technician assists with surgical procedures in scrubbing duties, responsible for preparing for procedures and assisting the operative team, including preparation and maintenance of sterile supplies.

Responsibilities:

• Create and maintain a sterile field.
• Inspect sterile items for contamination before opening.
• Anticipate the need for equipment and supplies before the case begins.
• Assure all equipment is functioning before use.
• Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, and air-powered equipment according to manufacturer's instructions.
• Scrub all surgical procedures and understand the special needs, techniques, and requirements of the individual surgeon.
• Assist in scrubbing specialty surgeries without the presence of a sales representative, including sports medicine and trauma.
• Assist RN with completion of operative charge and recording of hardware used during the procedure.
• Collect specimens and cultures by verifying source and correct tissue identification with the surgeon.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure:

• High school diploma required.
• One year of experience in the operating room as a Surgical Technician or Surgical Technician training required.
• Certification or eligibility for certification preferred.
• American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification required.
