Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday, 2:30 AM Start Time Manager, Transportation ensures a culture focused on people, safety, service, and cost through meaningful engagements with drivers, best‑in‑class service to customers, and safe & profitable operations. They use their transportation experience to manage personnel and drive efficient operations, ensuring safe, accurate, and timely outbound shipments. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Lead with a safety mindset that ensures all associates, customers, and the public remain injury free. Champion safety procedures, processes, and training to create a safety‑first culture. Oversee and develop drivers and associates through coaching, training on policy and procedures, problem resolution, and leading by example. Ensure all are appropriately trained in duties, safety, and legal responsibilities. Discuss performance with senior managers and develop plans to address gaps. Create an atmosphere that encourages upward communication and motivates associates to achieve department goals. Direct and supervise drivers and clerical associates, drive engagement and retention, and embed US Foods values into the culture. Build high‑performing teams by interviewing and hiring personnel with senior managers. Review performance, coach on service and safety targets, and deliver disciplinary action. Monitor production goals, maintain a zero‑error attitude, and ensure accuracy and customer satisfaction. Anticipate, analyze, troubleshoot delivery problems, and devise cost‑effective, legal solutions. Identify and eliminate waste, improving processes to complete work more safely and efficiently. Conduct routine safety and driver meetings. Oversee maintenance of driver qualification files. Investigate all accidents, maintain an accident file, track causes, and take preventive action. Effectively schedule working shifts using planning tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel). Perform other duties assigned by the manager. SUPERVISION Direct: Union and/or non‑union Drivers RELATIONSHIPS Internal: Transportation leaders, coworkers, drivers, warehouse leaders, internal customers across departments (e.g., sales) External: Customers WORK ENVIRONMENT May spend significant time on the road. Must spend time in a truck with drivers, exposed to higher noise and vibration levels than typical passenger cars. Will also work in an office on a computer. Minimum Qualifications Minimum three years of experience in transportation/delivery or warehouse distribution. Minimum one year of experience overseeing a workforce. Experience as a driver is a plus. CDL preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Broad knowledge of transportation/delivery operations, methods, and procedures. Strong leadership, communication, and people‑development skills. Strong understanding of DOT requirements. Familiarity with inventory control, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements. Ability to interpret financial and operational data. Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office). Travel 10% travel required, typically for mandatory meetings and/or training. Education & Training High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred. Manual dexterity (typing, use of office machines such as copiers, printers) – occasionally. This role may also receive incentive compensation. The expected base rate for this role is $60,000 - $100,000.
