Senior Ultrasound Technologist

The Senior Ultrasound Technologist works under the direct supervision of the Radiology Administrator (and/or designee). Performs routine and some special procedure imaging using ultrasound guidance. Prepares patients for procedures, assists radiologists as needed, operates and maintains equipment, processes film or prints CDs, and adheres to radiology standards of care and customer service programs. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Prepares and positions patients correctly for specific examinations, observing protocol requirements and documenting images and patient questionnaires. Assumes responsibility for designated areas and procedures, producing high‑quality technical images and reviewing completed exams for quality and completeness. Assists physicians during procedures as necessary. Performs equipment quality assurance, calibrations, and orders supplies. May be required to work during emergencies, take call, work holidays, overtime, and support day, evening, and overnight shift coverage. Maintains cleanliness of all work areas, equipment, and accessories, reporting malfunctioning equipment to the Bio Med or supervisor. Processes images and prints CDs as needed. Performs routine office duties such as answering phones, checking previous reports, and documenting patient information in Meditech or the hospital RIS/PACS. Notifies transport when patients are ready to be picked up or returned to floors. Shows radiologist films, communicates reports to the attending physician, and documents communications when required (wet read). May serve as an instructor or preceptor. Provides professional and courteous treatment to patients and staff, upholding hospital behavioral standards. Introduces themselves and educates each patient or family member regarding the ordered examination. Delivers age‑appropriate care to neonate/newborn, pediatric/adolescent, adult, and geriatric groups. Attends staff meetings and in‑services. Prepares schedules, maintains timesheets, assists with payroll, orders supplies, and manages daily patient flow and departmental tasks. May be on standby or called in for emergency department coverage. Adapts duties and hours to the changing needs of the department or hospital. Education and Experience Requirements ARDMS required for ACR accreditation compliance after January 1, 2019, or ARRT(s) or RT(VS). Previous experience preferred. Continual education required to maintain certification. BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required or to be obtained within 90 days of hire. Observes and inspects employees and patients. Frequently moves and positions patients for exams. Exposure to chemicals necessary for tasks; information available in the hospital SDS database.
