Position Summary

The Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA Counselor) provides substance use disorder counseling, recovery support, case management, and treatment planning services to individuals experiencing substance use and cooccurring behavioral health disorders. The CDCA Counselor works under the supervision of a qualified licensed clinician in accordance with Ohio Administrative Code, OhioMHAS standards, and agency policies. This position is responsible for delivering evidence-based, person-centered services that promote recovery, improve functioning, and support successful treatment outcomes while maintaining accurate clinical documentation and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performance Expectations - Maintain professional and ethical conduct at all times. - Meet agency productivity standards. - Complete documentation within required timeframes. - Maintain compliance with OhioMHAS, Medicaid, accreditation, and agency requirements. - Participate in supervision and continuous quality improvement activities. - Demonstrate cultural competence, respect, compassion, and professionalism in all interactions.

Clinical Services - Conduct client screenings and intake interviews. - Assist in completing comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments under clinical supervision. - Participate in the development, implementation, and review of individualized treatment plans. - Provide individual, group, and family substance use counseling within the scope of CDCA practice. - Deliver psychoeducation on addiction, relapse prevention, recovery skills, and wellness. - Monitor client progress toward treatment goals. - Coordinate referrals for mental health, medical, housing, vocational, educational, and community support services. - Participate in discharge planning and continuing care planning.

Recovery Support - Encourage client engagement and retention in treatment. - Promote recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care practices. - Assist clients in developing relapse prevention and recovery maintenance plans. - Support clients in accessing community recovery resources and support groups. - Encourage family involvement when clinically appropriate

Documentation and Compliance - Complete clinical documentation accurately and within established agency timeframes. - Maintain progress notes, treatment plans, discharge summaries, and other required documentation in the electronic health record. - Ensure documentation supports medical necessity and billing requirements. - Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and agency policies. - Participate in clinical supervision as required by Ohio CDCA credentialing standards.

Collaboration - Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings. - Coordinate care with psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, case managers, peer recovery supporters, and other providers. - Communicate effectively with referral sources and community partners. - Assist during crisis situations by following agency protocols and consulting with licensed clinical staff.

Professional Development - Maintain an active Ohio CDCA credential in good standing. - Complete continuing education requirements required for credential renewal. - Participate in agency training, staff meetings, and quality improvement initiatives. - Pursue professional development toward advanced chemical dependency licensure when applicable.
