This role oversees accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, supply chain financial operations, internal controls, and cash management while serving as the financial expert on the Retail Services Executive Team. You will help safeguard university assets, drive operational excellence through data‑driven decision making, and support the mission and values of BYU. Responsibilities Leadership of Financial Services Team and Management of Accounting Practices : Ensure qualified accounting employees are hired, trained, and developed; conduct team meetings and ensure clear communication. Follow GAAP and ensure timely accurate financial data to University Financial Services. Oversee the journaling of all financial and accounting data, ensure university tax policies are adhered to, manage customer open billing accounts and liability risk, and ensure appropriate inventory management and cycle counting practices. Executive Team Membership : Promote the mission, vision, and values of Retail Services and participate in regularly scheduled Executive Team meetings to review major initiatives and strategies. Provide financial perspective, cash flow insight, and accounting expertise on major strategic and operational activities; evaluate and consult with other college/division managers regarding operational questions and policies. Promote and teach protection of university assets, effective internal controls, collaboration between Retail Services teams, and model teamwork and alignment. Conducts Financial and Trend Analysis Using Operational Efficiency Metrics : Regularly conduct financial analysis of major expense areas, identify opportunities to improve efficiency, and work with leadership to develop improvement plans. Communicate cash flow and accrual impacts and utilize data from various systems to develop and monitor operational metrics. Provide operational and financial trend analysis to support informed decision‑making and continuous improvement. Administers Annual Budgeting Process : Oversee and administer the annual budgeting and allocation process for all Retail Services units. Consult with individual channel and cost‑center leaders, provide historical data, and conduct analysis to ensure budgets are accurate and communicated to University Financial Services. Administer the annual CNA (Capital Needs Assessment) process and collaborate with the Executive Team to ensure accurate information and organizational needs are communicated. Qualifications Required : Firm commitment to the mission of BYU. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. At least 5 years of general accounting experience or 5 years of public accounting experience, or equivalent. GAAP expertise and strong knowledge of accounting controls, budgeting, inventory management, and financial reporting. Membership of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints must hold a current temple recommend. Preferred : Master’s degree in Accounting. Seven or more years of retail accounting management experience. Experience with NetSuite and/or Workday ERP Systems, POS systems, capital expenditure budgeting, forecasting, trend analysis, and team leadership. Typical Starting Pay: $110,000 – $142,500. The actual compensation offered will consider internal equity and may vary based on the candidate’s job‑related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors.
