Assistant Principal

Job Title: Assistant Principal Assist the campus Principal in overall administration of the instructional program and campus operations. Coordinate student activities and services. Qualifications Education/Certification: Master’s degree from an accredited university; Texas Teacher Certificate; Certification in Special Education (required for Academic and Behavior Center campuses); Texas Mid‑Management or other appropriate Texas certificate; Certificate of Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T‑TESS). Special Knowledge/Skills: Thorough understanding of school administrative operations; strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with a specified behavior management system; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to learn and utilize specialized therapeutic restraint techniques to control student behavior, when appropriate; general knowledge of computer systems and software applications; general knowledge of curriculum and instruction. Experience: Three years teaching experience; experience working with students with special needs and students in at‑risk situations. Major Responsibilities Instructional Management: Participate in development and evaluation of educational programs; provide appropriate time, resources and materials to support staff; assist Principal in developing, maintaining and using information systems and records to measure campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators; facilitate technology implementation; process changes and adjustments in student schedules. Personnel Management: Assist Principal in interviewing, selecting and orienting new staff; observe employee performance, record observations and conduct evaluation conferences; serve as second appraiser in the Professional Development and Appraisal System; supervise teachers, paraprofessionals and clerical personnel; supervise operations in Principal's absence; treat all staff with dignity, integrity and respect. School/Organizational Climate: Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds; promote a positive, caring learning environment; employ effective interpersonal skills. Organizational Improvement: Participate in collaborative processes to develop campus improvement plans; assess and respond to needs related to job responsibilities. Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management: Assist in requisitioning supplies, textbooks and equipment; conduct inventories and maintain records; supervise safety inspections and drills; coordinate transportation, custodial, cafeteria and other support services; supervise student attendance reporting; compile annual instructional‑related material requests; implement policies established by federal and state law and state board of education rules. Student Management: Coordinate and provide adequate supervision; monitor special education services; develop a student management system; conduct parent, student and teacher conferences; ensure uniform application of school rules and equitable discipline; model positive behavior; conduct physical student searches. Professional Growth and Development: Initiate development of professional skills; demonstrate professionalism, ethics and responsibility; articulate campus goals; support community; maintain confidentiality; perform other duties as assigned.
