Adventist Book Center: Sales Associate, Non-Exempt, Part Time

JOB SUMMARY

Support the Southern California Conference (“SCC”) in accomplishing its mission, “to exalt Christ by cultivating healthy churches and schools” and its core values of integrity with transparency, engagement, stewardship, unity in diversity, and relationships & team.

Perform retail, cashier, and inventory functions at the store.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. Regular attendance.


2. Provide customer support on the sales floor, answer questions about specific items and direct customers to specific products within the store.


3. Answer the phone and answer questions or take customer orders.


4. Keep the shelves attractively arranged.


5. Maintain organized, neat and clean work areas and sales counters.


6. Operate cash register/TAM office & point of sales software.


7. Replenish show room display and keep them attractively arranged.


8. Assist in maintaining inventory.


9. Open and close store.


10. Ability to perform shipping and receiving duties and to lift, carry, push, and/or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.


11. Receive new inventory purchases, confirm delivery, enter inventory in TAM and organize overstocks area.


12. Bag bulk items. Keep bagging room clean.


13. Perform some custodial duties such as mop, sweep, clean bathrooms and other duties as assigned.


14. Due to heavy work demands, maintain regular attendance, work Sundays as required and time off may not be granted during special sales events.


15. Comply with policies and procedures of SCC, including but not limited to those in the Employee Handbook, the Pacific Union’s Education Code, and the North American Division Working Policy.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

• Perform each essential function satisfactorily, and


• Be a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in good standing, and


• Documented proof to work legally in the USA, and


• Possess a proven track record of effective leadership, judgment, collaboration, a learner and possess character above reproach, and


• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of Live Scan fingerprinting and background clearance, and


• Meet the requirements listed
  

Education and/or Experience

Must be people oriented. Prior experience in sales is preferable. Computer and phone skills are necessary. High school graduate or equivalency.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).


• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of privileged information.

• Ability to speak Spanish highly desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to do the following for prolonged or significant periods: sit, stand; walk; use hands and fingers; reach with arms; talk; and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, and kneel. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distant, color, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Extended hours and travel may occasionally be required.
