As our practice continues to expand, we are seeking a motivated Litigation Associate who is looking for meaningful courtroom experience, increasing responsibility, and the opportunity to grow with the firm.
POSITION OVERVIEW
This is a full-time Litigation Associate position based in either our Hartford or New Haven office, depending on the candidate's preference and the needs of the firm. The position offers substantial courtroom experience, direct client contact, and the opportunity to manage litigation matters with increasing independence. While the role includes regular in-person collaboration and court appearances, flexible and hybrid work arrangements may be available for the right candidate.
The successful candidate will manage a broad range of civil litigation matters and will be expected to take an active role in every stage of litigation, from case evaluation through trial and resolution. This position offers significant hands-on experience, substantial courtroom exposure, direct client contact, and the opportunity to develop as a trial lawyer while receiving guidance and mentorship from experienced litigators.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct case assessments and develop litigation strategies.
• Draft pleadings, motions, memoranda, discovery requests, and discovery responses.
• Prepare for, take, and defend depositions.
• Conduct legal research and apply findings to active litigation matters.
• Prepare and argue motions in state and federal court.
• Communicate regularly with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and experts.
• Prepare cases for mediation, arbitration, and trial.
• Assist with and, as experience permits, serve as first or second chair at trials.
• Prepare witness examinations, exhibit lists, motions in limine, jury instructions, verdict forms, and trial briefs.
• Participate in all phases of trial preparation and courtroom presentation.
• Maintain organized case files and ensure compliance with all deadlines and procedural requirements.
• Progressively assume responsibility for managing matters with increasing independence.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum of three (3) years of litigation experience required.
• Strong understanding of civil litigation practice and procedure.
• Demonstrated experience drafting and arguing motions, including dispositive and procedural motions.
• Experience conducting and defending depositions.
• Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Familiarity with state court practice; federal court experience is a plus.
• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the Connecticut Bar, or eligibility for prompt admission.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously.
• Sound judgment, professionalism, and a commitment to ethical, client-centered representation.
• Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team culture.
