Chief Operating Officer

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Companion Health Services is a key leader who oversees daily operations at several long-term care locations. The COO supports over 400 employees in both clinical and non-clinical roles across multiple sites. Working closely with both facility and corporate leaders, the COO ensures consistent standards, high-quality care for residents, rules compliance, good workforce management, and strong financial results. The COO helps turn company goals into clear plans and makes sure each location has the right leadership, resources, and support to provide safe and compassionate care.

Responsibilities
  • Follow all laws and run business honestly and ethically.
  • Support company goals and avoid conflicts of interest.
  • Treat all employees with respect and protect private information.
  • Set and keep high standards for resident care.
  • Create and maintain consistent clinical policies and best practices across all locations.
  • Check quality by looking at clinical results and safety, and help improve where needed.
  • Visit sites regularly to review clinical care and safety, and fix any problems found.
  • Lead efforts to maintain and improve CMS Five-Star Quality Ratings and other quality measures.
  • Support quality improvement programs and monitor progress.
  • Promote teamwork and clear communication between facility leaders and corporate support teams.
  • Turn company goals into clear, measurable plans and track progress.
  • Manage resources like staff, equipment, and supplies across locations to support care.
  • Help facility leaders solve problems, handle staffing, prepare for surveys, and meet operational goals.
  • Review performance data and work with leaders to improve operations.
  • Lead and support staff, encouraging accountability, teamwork, and quality care.
  • Build a positive work culture focused on residents and employee engagement.
  • Coach and mentor facility leaders to improve their skills and knowledge.
  • Set clear expectations for leaders and provide feedback and support to improve.
  • Monitor and review financial performance like budgets and expenses, and find ways to improve.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations in long-term care operations.
  • Identify and manage risks, including resident safety, complaints, and worker’s compensation issues.
  • Track staffing metrics such as turnover and overtime, and work to keep appropriate staffing levels.
  • Support preparation and response to regulatory inspections and surveys.
  • Promote workplace and resident safety by supporting safety programs and initiatives.
  • Attend meetings and communicate important information to leadership.
  • Manage priorities to keep the organization running smoothly and efficiently.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, nursing, or a related field.
  • Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) license is preferred.
  • 5-7 years of leadership experience in long-term care or healthcare operations, preferably managing multiple locations.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations for long-term care and assisted living.
  • Good leadership, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and improve operations, staffing, and financial performance.
  • Must be able to travel regularly between company locations.
  • Flexible to visit evening, night, or weekend shifts as needed to support 24/7 care.
