Assistant Housekeeping Manager

The following Core Responsibilities represent the primary duties and key priorities of this position. They are grouped into two categories: Job Functions and Professionalism and Style Expectations. A Physical Requirements section follows, outlining expectations applicable to all positions. Each responsibility is assigned a weight indicating the percentage of the job it represents. For performance evaluations, the Core Responsibilities account for 90% of the overall score, while the Professionalism and Style Expectations make up the remaining 10%. Availability including nights, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts is required. Job Function Housekeeping Operations and Team Leadership Assist the Housekeeping Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Housekeeping Department to ensure guest rooms and public areas meet hotel and brand cleanliness standards. Supervise, train, coach, and support room attendants, housepersons, laundry attendants, and public area attendants. Conduct daily inspections of guest rooms, suites, corridors, public areas, and back-of-house spaces to ensure compliance with quality and cleanliness standards. Monitor room status and coordinate with the Front Office to ensure timely room availability for arriving guests. Assign daily work schedules and adjust staffing levels based on occupancy and business demands. Assist with interviewing, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary action for housekeeping associates. Ensure all housekeeping associates follow hotel policies, safety procedures, and brand standards. Respond promptly and professionally to guest requests, concerns, and service recovery situations. Coordinate with the Engineering Department to report and follow up on maintenance issues within guest rooms and public areas. Monitor inventory levels of linens, guest room supplies, cleaning chemicals, and housekeeping equipment, communicating replenishment needs to the appropriate supervisor. Ensure proper handling, storage, and use of cleaning chemicals and equipment in accordance with OSHA and hotel safety standards. Assist with budget control by monitoring labor costs, productivity, and supply usage. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety throughout housekeeping storage rooms, linen closets, and work areas. Prepare and maintain housekeeping reports, inspection records, room status updates, and other departmental documentation. Assist with opening and closing procedures for the department. Respond promptly to supervisor and guest requests. Follow all hotel policies and procedures. Attend all required meetings and trainings. Assist with additional housekeeping or operational duties as assigned. Work collaboratively with housekeeping associates and all hotel departments. Communication Communicate clearly and professionally with guests, team members, and management. Provide coaching, direction, and constructive feedback to housekeeping associates. Follow instructions and ask for clarification when necessary. Share relevant information regarding room status, maintenance concerns, guest requests, and operational updates. Handle guest concerns with professionalism, discretion, and courtesy. Treat co-workers, supervisors, and guests with respect at all times. Physical Requirements These are required of every associate: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds. Ability to push, pull, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach overhead. Ability to inspect guest rooms and public areas thoroughly, including reaching, bending, and climbing stairs when necessary. Ability to safely operate housekeeping equipment and handle cleaning chemicals. Ability to perform repetitive tasks requiring manual dexterity. Ability to hear, write, and communicate effectively. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. Additional Responsibilities Specific to This Position Must possess strong knowledge of housekeeping operations, hotel cleanliness standards, and guest service expectations. Must have a working understanding of OSHA regulations, hotel safety procedures, and proper chemical handling practices. Strong leadership, organizational, time management, and conflict resolution skills are required. Ability to prepare schedules, inspection reports, and departmental documentation accurately. Ability to work effectively with hotel property management systems and housekeeping software is preferred. High school education or equivalent experience is required; coursework in hospitality management is preferred. Previous housekeeping supervisory experience is required; hotel housekeeping management experience is preferred. Ability to obtain any required safety certifications in a timely manner. CPR certification is preferred; first aid training is a plus. Additional language proficiency is preferred.
