Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION This position is for an Aircraft Mechanic, Position Description Number D1366000, located in the 165th Maintenance Squadron, Garden City, Georgia. This is a full-time, Excepted Permanent dual status position which requires Georgia Air National Guard Membership. Area of Consideration: Current members of the Air National Guard. Responsibilities As an Aircraft Mechanic, WG-8852-10, you will: Perform inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on aircraft to include periodic, phase, hourly, preflight, postflight, calendar, thru-flight, and special inspections such as fuel contamination, emergency equipment, and oil sampling. Inspect and perform functional checks such as landing gear retraction and operation checks on hydraulic, electrical, pressurization, lubrication, de-icing, vacuum, induction, and exhaust systems. Troubleshoot and perform unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft, utilizing various gauges, meters, measuring devices and other related test equipment. Remove and replace aircraft components such as control surfaces, engines, constant speed drive, engine mounted gear boxes, wing fuel tanks or cells, landing gear mechanisms, wheels, brakes and tires. Service oil, fluid, fuel, hydraulic, and oxygen systems. Adjust and maintain installed equipment such as tow targets, hydraulic reels, and drive assemblies. Perform user and organizational level maintenance on assigned support equipment, including inspection, repair, modification, and corrosion prevention. Instruct, direct, and assign maintenance repair tasks to drill status guard members. Complies with safety, fire, security, and housekeeping regulations. Prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations such as MEI, ORI, IG and UE inspections, mobility and command support exercises. Perform other duties as assigned. Compatible Military Assignments: AFSC: 2A3X3 2A5X1 2A5X2 2A5X4 2A3X7 General Experience: Must possess experience that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. Specialized Experience: Candidate must have 18 months specialized experience installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. Physical Effort: Requires moderate physical exertion when climbing, stooping, standing, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Routinely required to objects weighing up to 20 pounds, occasionally may lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Works indoors and outdoors in inclement weather on icy, wet, hot, and slippery ramps; aircraft surfaces, work stands, and ladders; and in temperature and humidity extremes. Subject to the dangers from exposure to toxic fumes, dust, dirt, grease, lubricants, points, solvents, high pressure air and fluids; fast actuating aircraft surfaces such as speed brakes, flaps, and landing gear; engine noise, heat blast, and intake suction; rotating propellers; explosive munitions; electrical voltage; cartridge actuating devices; liquid oxygen; fire or explosion of aircraft fuels, etc. Frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, burns, shock, strains and broken bones.
