As we grow across each of these lines of business, we're building the financial discipline and infrastructure needed to support that growth.Position OverviewWe're seeking a Controller to build and run the day-to-day financial operations of Inovi as we grow across data center design, build, and management, along with our IT equipment sales and procurement business. Because our revenue comes from active, in-progress projects and equipment deals in addition to steady recurring revenue, project-level margins, cost discipline, and cash flow visibility are critical to keeping the business healthy. You'll report to the CFO, with regular contact with the CEO and Head of Operations, and you'll be the person who keeps the books accurate, the close on schedule, and project economics visible in real time.In this role, you'll personally establish and run Inovi's core financial operations accounting, monthly close, AR/AP, and reporting and you'll maintain the project-level job costing and cash reporting the CFO relies on for forecasting and board reporting. You'll work closely with project managers, field technicians, and procurement to track project economics in real time, flagging cost overruns, margin slippage, or cash timing risk before they become a problem.This is a high-impact, hands-on role the accuracy and timeliness of your work will directly shape Inovi's ability to grow responsibly across every line of business. You'll bring the financial rigor and disciplined execution the company needs to make sound decisions today, and you'll be the operational backbone the CFO and CEO rely on.Essential Job Function and Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting, Close & ReportingPersonally own and execute Inovi's monthly close process across all business lines, ensuring accurate, timely financial statementsManage day-to-day accounting operations, including AP/AR, payroll coordination, and general ledger accuracyMaintain project-level job costing so revenue and cost are tracked by project, not just at the company levelApply and maintain percentage-of-completion (or other ASC 606-appropriate) revenue recognition across active projects, keeping recognized revenue aligned with project completion and billing statusMaintain fixed asset, depreciation, and construction-in-progress (CIP) schedules for company-owned equipment and data center build projects, and account for IT equipment held for resale as inventoryTrack site-level financials job costing, capitalized project costs, and lease accounting (ASC 842) as Inovi's footprint expands across multiple physical sites and locationsEnsure compliance with applicable tax, licensing, and regulatory requirements across the states Inovi operates in, coordinating with outside tax advisors as neededSelect, implement, and maintain the accounting and financial systems needed to run finance at Inovi's current scaleCross-Functional Financial PartnershipMeet regularly with project managers to review project budgets vs. actuals, change orders, and milestone billing schedulesCoordinate with field technicians to track labor hours and materials/equipment usage, and flag rework or warranty costs eating into marginPartner with procurement on vendor pricing, purchase commitments, deal registration, and lead times that affect cash timingWork with the sales team to incorporate pipeline and quote-level margin data into revenue forecastsProactively flag cost overruns, margin slippage, or cash flow risk to the CFO before they become criticalBudgeting, Cash Flow & ControlsBuild and own Inovi's annual operating budget in partnership with department and project leads, keeping it consistent with the CFO's multi-year forecast assumptionsMaintain a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast and analyze AR/AP aging, retainage, and milestone billing timing to flag short-term liquidity risk to the CFOMaintain internal controls and payment approval workflows appropriate for a lean finance teamPrepare budget-to-actual reporting, cash schedules, and project-level data that feed the CFO's forecasts and board materialsCoordinate with outside tax preparers and auditors to keep the books audit-ready and filings supported with accurate dataCommunicate financial findings and operational risks clearly and regularly to the CFO and, as needed, the Head of Operations and CEOPayroll, Vendor & Risk ComplianceAdminister multi-state payroll and ensure correct employee vs. contractor (W-2/1099) classification for field technicians and subcontractorsManage day-to-day banking relationships, ACH/wire processing, and the corporate card and expense management programCoordinate with HR/PEO on benefits administration, 401(k) plan operations, and workers' compensation auditsTrack retainage, progress billing, and lien waiver requirements on construction and build projects, and maintain certificates of insurance for vendors, subcontractors, and the companyQualifications Required5+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including personally owning monthly close, AR/AP, and financial reporting not just supporting a larger team.Strong working knowledge of GAAP accounting, project-based job costing, and financial systems/ERP selection and implementation.Experience with percentage-of-completion or other long-term contract revenue recognition (e.g., ASC 606).Experience with multi-state payroll administration and worker classification (W-2 vs. 1099).Experience with construction-in-progress (CIP) accounting, lease accounting (ASC 842), and financial tracking across multiple physical sites or locations.Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate project-level financial data and reporting in a business with active, project-driven revenue, in addition to subscription or recurring revenue.Comfortable working cross-functionally with operations, project management, procurement, and sales to gather accurate, real-time financial information.Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to present financial findings clearly to the CFO and operational leadership.Experience with cash flow monitoring and reporting for capital-intensive work such as construction, infrastructure, or equipment procurement.Direct experience within the technology, data center build/design, or infrastructure management industry.Strong financial modeling skills, including the ability to build and interpret models for labor costs and project-level economics.PreferredBased in the Bay Area, or has direct professional experience at Bay Area technology or infrastructure companies.CPA, CFA, or MBA.Experience building financial infrastructure and systems from the ground up at an early-stage or lean-headcount company.Compensation and Benefits$150,000+ Benefits include
