Essential Duties and Responsibilities Installs, repairs, and locates water and sewer mains and lines Maintains operation of the water treatment plant Reads, maintains, repairs, tests, and replaces water meters Turns on and off water service Maintains and repairs water pumps and service stations Helps maintain plant buildings and grounds Performs additional duties as assigned Qualifications Knowledge of methods and tools used to read, repair, and operate water meters Ability to assist in the repair and overhaul of plant equipment Ability to read gauges and recording devices Ability to keep routine records Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools Ability to follow written and oral directions Ability to make arithmetic calculations Education and Experience Completion of high school or GED Two years experience applying mechanical knowledge or the principles of chemistry preferred Special Requirements A current Kansas drivers license Must become certified as a Kansas Class I Water Treatment Operator within eighteen months of employment Compliance with state mandated continuing education requirements Must be available to work nights, in shifts, overtime, and weekends Physical Requirements Intense physical effort is required. Individual must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, grasp, speak, and listen for extended periods of time. Working Conditions Work involves some exposure to moderate risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions.
