Controls Engineer

What You'll Do Lead the assembly and machining controls engineering deliverables for VOME & PTO programs, from simultaneous engineering through program launch for all Global VOME & PTO sites. Implement and apply standard software and hardware controls architectures across all programs/plants, following the VOME & PTO specification. Ensure the identification and capture of lessons learned and apply them to new programs, assessing impact on existing strategies and standards. Lead simultaneous engineering meetings with Tier I suppliers to orchestrate controls program reviews. Participate in management program reviews and represent the controls organization in commodity discussions. Drive the controls organization to resolve issues concerning feasibility, timing, cost, and workload. Respond to emergency downtime events. Handle current scope program responsibilities. Deliver new‑model program work for various Powertrain programs supporting SE MI, Ohio, Kansas City, and Windsor, ON. Travel up to 80 % during peak program times, including Kansas City, Tennessee & Kentucky. Work off‑shift as needed during peak program install and launch times. Significant travel to supplier sites and Ford assembly plants is required (50‑75%). Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or equivalent; 5+ years in Controls Engineering with strong ability to learn and apply controls knowledge. Applied experience in Structured Control Language (SCL) including FC/FB editing and creation. Software programming experience in Rockwell & Siemens – both preferred. Direct program experience with assembly, machining and tooling for Powertrain & Vehicle equipment. Ability to engineer and implement controls architectures (hardware/software). Validated programming capabilities with Siemens, Schneider, Bosch PLCs and CNC/Motion control systems. Hands‑on knowledge and troubleshooting skills for PLC, CNC, robot, vision and other automation issues. Skill in cell machining systems and integration of CNC controls, gantries and auxiliary equipment. Knowledge of assembly and machining RFID systems and QOS strategies. Knowledge of international electrical/safety standards (UL, ISO, IEC) and familiarity with internal/external safety processes (risk assessments, PSS, coordinated safety). Read and design electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic prints. Understanding of communication network architectures and field‑bus protocols. Knowledge of PTME IT standard footprint applications such as FIS, QLS, QWX, GPTS, QDAS, OBL, PDS and EP‑Operator system. Familiarity with program delivery elements from the cost‑study phase to launch. Process engineering knowledge including GPDS deliverables and plant‑operational impact of controls designs. Experience interacting with senior management, process engineering, safety, IT and plant production teams. Self‑starter, self‑directed with strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Robust manufacturing background with heavy emphasis on production‑related controls experience. Strong leadership skills with ability to lead in technical aspects of the role. At least one year of experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Ability to implement AI models to existing workstreams to improve team efficiency. Experience using problem‑solving skills within FMEA, DOE, DMAIC, 5‑D, 8‑D processes. Paid time off and option to purchase additional vacation time. Salary This position is a salary grade 5 and ranges from $65,100 to $109,300. Salary grade 6 ranges from $74,300 to $124,500. Salary grade 7 ranges from $86,600 to $144,900. Salary grade 8 ranges from $99,100 to $166,200. Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience; the base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and market value.
