Senior Cloud Engineer

Location: Huntsville, AL

Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite – 5 days/week

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to support the FBI EOD program in Huntsville, Alabama. This is a hands-on senior technical position focused on cloud engineering, AWS administration and development, DevOps automation, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, containerization, and cloud-native technologies.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) combined with practical, hands-on DevOps engineering experience. Candidates do not need to be experts in every individual technology listed below. The primary consideration is demonstrated hands-on experience performing the core functions of modern cloud and DevOps engineering.

The Senior Cloud Engineer will work independently to manage, administer, support, enhance, automate, troubleshoot, and continuously improve cloud environments. The position requires the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex technical problems and work with limited direction.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, deploy, administer, and enhance enterprise cloud-native solutions.
• Manage and support AWS cloud environments, including cloud resources, services, access controls, credentials, permissions, and related administration.
• Develop and maintain automated cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Design and implement infrastructure provisioning and automation using tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation.
• Develop, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve CI/CD pipelines, with particular emphasis on GitLab CI/CD.
• Troubleshoot, triage, and resolve pipeline failures, performance issues, and slowness.
• Implement and maintain containerized applications and workloads using Docker and/or Kubernetes.
• Design and support cloud-native and serverless architectures, including AWS Lambda.
• Develop automation and applications using programming languages such as Python, Java, and/or JavaScript.
• Work with AWS compute, storage, and networking services.
• Configure and support cloud networking technologies, including DNS, load balancing, and TLS.
• Work with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and command-line interfaces, including Bash.
• Monitor cloud environments and applications and troubleshoot performance issues using technologies such as:

AWS CloudWatch

ELK

Grafana

• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across open-source and commercial technologies deployed in public cloud environments.
• Apply cloud security principles and best practices to cloud infrastructure and applications.
• Identify opportunities for continuous automation and operational improvement across multiple technical stacks.
• Develop innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.
• Work independently with limited direction while collaborating with other technical teams.
• Mentor and coach junior team members and provide technical guidance.
• Assist with solution development, technical troubleshooting, and resolution of complex engineering issues.
• Support other technical teams and responsibilities as assigned based on program requirements.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

Candidates must meet one of the following:

• Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience developing and deploying enterprise cloud-native solutions; OR
• 12+ years of experience developing and deploying enterprise cloud-native solutions in lieu of a degree.

Security & Eligibility

• Fully adjudicated Top Secret clearance required.
• Interim Top Secret clearances will not be accepted.
• U.S. Citizenship required.

Technical Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Hands-on DevOps experience.
• Experience developing and administering AWS environments.
• Experience designing and automating the provisioning of cloud resources.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), particularly:
• Terraform

CloudFormation

• Equivalent IaC technologies may be considered where the candidate demonstrates strong transferable experience.
• Experience with cloud compute, storage, and networking.
• Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and command-line interfaces, including Bash.
• Experience with platform-as-a-service/container technologies, particularly Kubernetes.
• Experience with network technologies such as:

DNS

Load balancing

TLS

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitLab CI/CD.
• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and/or Kubernetes.
• Programming/development experience with Python, Java, and/or JavaScript.

Preferred

The following skills are highly desirable but are not necessarily required if the candidate demonstrates strong equivalent experience:

• Experience creating and improving continuous automation across multiple technical stacks.
• Strong experience troubleshooting, triaging, and resolving GitLab CI/CD pipeline failures or performance issues.
• Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes.
• Experience with DevOps practices, methodologies, and tools.
• Experience with Git and/or GitLab.
• Experience with AWS Lambda and serverless architectures.
• Experience with ELK, Grafana, and AWS CloudWatch for monitoring, logging, and performance analysis.
• Experience applying cloud security principles.
• Programming experience with Python and Java.
• AWS certifications.
• Experience troubleshooting both open-source and commercial tools in public cloud environments.
• Broader experience across multiple AWS services and cloud-native technologies.
