The Opportunity

We are seeking dedicated, compassionate, and experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to join our medical team for the upcoming summer. Working alongside three peer nurses and visiting physicians, you will provide high-quality clinical care in a vibrant residential community. This role is ideal for clinicians who are calm under pressure, highly organized, clear in their medical decision-making, and genuinely excited to immerse themselves in a supportive camp environment.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Infirmary Operations

  • Provide daily patient care and triage within our fully equipped, 8-bed camp infirmary.

  • Collaborate harmoniously with a team of three other staff nurses to ensure 24/7 coverage and smooth clinic flow.

  • Assist in preparing the Health Center for operational readiness starting at pre-camp orientation.

Medication Administration & Documentation

  • Manage and execute routine medication roll calls (approximately 30% of the camp population receives daily scheduled medications).

  • Coordinate directly with outside pharmacies and medication delivery providers for prescription refills.

  • Maintain meticulous, confidential medical charts within the camp’s secure online health documentation system.

  • Perform basic on-site diagnostic testing (such as rapid strep tests) as required.

  • Conduct educational demonstrations for camp counselors on basic medical safety protocols, including correct EpiPen administration.

  • Provide clear, professional, and reassuring health updates to parents regarding their child's medical care.

Emergency Preparedness & Response

  • Respond to acute medical situations and emergencies with a grounded, clear-headed approach.

  • Follow established clinical protocols for transferring patients to local emergency rooms or urgent care facilities.

  • Work seamlessly with Wayne County emergency medical services when advanced care is required (preparedness is key, as local ambulance response times average 25–30 minutes).

  • Partner closely with our rotating visiting physicians (confirmed on-site for 5 out of the 7 core camp weeks; an additional nurse is scheduled for support during weeks without a physical doctor present).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid, active license as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in good standing.

  • A minimum of 4 years of professional, post-licensure clinical nursing experience.

  • At least 3 years of dedicated experience working directly with children and adolescents (ages 6–17).

  • Comfortable demonstrating and teaching basic medical protocols (like emergency injectables) to non-medical staff.

  • Strong organizational habits, reliable time-management skills, and clear verbal communication.

  • The desire and physical capability to live and work within an active, residential camp setting for the full contract window.

Who This Role is Perfect For

  • School Nurses looking for a stable, fulfilling, and highly rewarding summer position.

  • Pediatric RNs or LPNs seeking 8–9 weeks of steady, community-driven seasonal work.

  • Experienced Clinicians who want to step out of high-stress hospital units and apply their skills in a mission-driven, outdoor environment.
