Registered Respiratory Therapist

Job Summary

The Registered Respiratory Therapist performs basic and critical respiratory care services for adult and geriatric patients. This role requires the ability to work independently, as well as to oversee others as delegated. The therapist provides respiratory care for patients with respiratory diseases, following physician orders and department policies. Documentation includes completing paperwork, electronic medical records, flow sheets, and charges for each patient.

Education and Work Experience

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (some certifications may require a Bachelor's): Preferred
Master's Degree: Preferred
Three years' technical experience: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications

Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-CRT) credential: Required in CA, OR, and HI
Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license: Required in CA
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor: Required
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from an approved vendor: Required
Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) certification: Preferred
Registered or Certified by the National Board of Respiratory Care: Required
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification: Required
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification: Required

Essential Functions

Assess and document the appropriateness of prescribed therapy, including recommendations for patients receiving respiratory care services.
Administer aerosol and oxygen therapy while maintaining patient charts.
Draw arterial blood gases following policy and physician orders.
Provide care to ventilator patients.
Assist with departmental record keeping and operation, including training and supervising new employees.
Document care provided and maintain accurate records of treatments delivered.
