Job Description The Ultrasound Technologist provides excellent customer service by performing ultrasound examinations under the direction of a physician for identification of abnormalities leading to patient diagnosis. Shift Details: Full‑time (36 Hours), Saturday, Sunday, Monday 1pm–1:30am Unit/Location: St. Mary’s Regional Hospital Essential Functions Maintains American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and modality‑specific competency in all clinical and technical functions. Ensures proper patient identification, order verification, and prepares the patient for the exam. Performs exams per department protocol and reviews images for quality, clarity, and accuracy. Completes studies within acceptable time limits without compromising patient care or quality. Assists and instructs students and other Radiology Techs in exam protocols, procedures, positioning, and equipment. Provides appropriate patient education, ensures patient comfort, and addresses concerns. Practices appropriate infection control and sterile techniques. Understands and operates equipment and related information systems to ensure quality images. Keeps accurate records of patient information, procedures performed, and any adverse reactions. Follows protocols for medical necessity, coding, charging, consents, QC programs, and reporting equipment failures. Demonstrates proficiency with all clinical equipment within the department and all exam types. Exhibits good safety practices in body substance protection, cleaning of equipment, using proper sterile techniques, and removing any expired materials. Thoroughly and accurately completes all required documentation, including time stamps and image storage. Health Services/BCLS – Basic life support certification. Ultrasound Tech II: Must have completed a minimum of two additional years of experience relevant to the department post obtaining Ultrasound Tech I. Primary Children’s one of the two years must be pediatric experience. American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) – Successful completion of one additional registry pertinent to the department beyond Ultrasound Tech I or (SPI + 2 registries). Options include Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN), abdominal, neuro, breast, pediatric, Vascular, or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS). Primary Children’s one of the two registries must be pediatric. Health Services/BCLS – Basic life support certification. Preferred Qualifications Ultrasound Tech I: 1 or more years of experience. Ultrasound Tech II: Additional experience, additional registries, vascular experience. Physical Requirements Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent verbal communication required for patient care providers, patients, and visitors; quick and accurate understanding of spoken information. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy; frequent computer use and typing for documentation. Capability to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, including heavy items. Ability to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients; push/pull gurneys and portable equipment. Must navigate crowded and busy rooms; may stand in a stationary position for an extended period. Pay Range Hourly range: $39.16–$60.42, depending on experience.
