POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:
Work Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday with rotating weekends
Work Shift: Second shift, 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
As a Telecommunications Operator, you will help keep our facility connected and secure by performing duties such as:
Serve as the central point for incoming calls and direct callers appropriately.
Provide general information to callers and visitors.
Monitor CCTV, access control, and other communication systems to support facility safety.
Dispatch emergency services (Fire, EMS, DMHAS Police) when needed.
Receive, announce, and direct visitors.
Perform routine clerical tasks such as typing, filing, mail distribution, and receiving deliveries.
Assist with communication operations during emergencies, including supporting the Incident Command structure.
Train relief operators as needed.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state agency, institution or facility communications unit or security office this class is accountable for transmitting and receiving radio and/or telephone communications.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Receives, transmits and relays police, fire, medical and other emergency information to and from security officers, firemen, paramedics, maintenance crews, vehicles and aircraft and other emergency personnel;
Operates communication equipment which may include radio, telephone and related communications equipment;
Responds to complaints and refers to appropriate field personnel;
Receives information on matters which may include traffic accidents and injuries on state property and police, fire and medical emergencies;
Monitors alarm systems at state institutions or facilities;
Records time and nature of communications received and maintains files for purpose of ready identification;
Advises supervisor on all unusual or emergency incidents;
May also operate main switchboard at a state institution or facility ;
May monitor other state and local police, fire and medical radio frequencies;
May monitor citizen band radio emergency channels;
May monitor closed circuit television camera located at points within the state complexes;
May operate radio transmitter for paramedical electrocardiogram (EKG) analysis;
May operate a computer;
May perform varied clerical, typing and statistical work;
Performs related duties as required.
UConn Health, Call Center:
Responds to telephone inquiries, determines caller's need, and communicates need to appropriate individual, medical staff or provider;
Obtains patient information and verifies accuracy of system data;
Documents telephone inquires, complaints, conversations and action taken;
Schedules appointments and sends out appointment letters;
Calls patients for scheduled appointments and instructs patient in any necessary preparations;
Responds to correspondence and handle request as needed;
Maintains records.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any experience and training which would be expected to provide the knowledge, skill and abilities outlined above.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in using a PBX telephone switchboard, desk console, or other electronic telephone system.
Experience using computer software applications for communication, logging, or record keeping.
Experience working in environments requiring quick decision making or response under pressure.
Experience working in security, public safety, or healthcare support roles.
Experience utilizing Microsoft Office, Access Control Systems, Visitor Management Systems and Surveillance Systems preferred
Experience with dispatch in municipal or another emergency communications center / public safety dispatch, fire alarms, two-way radios is preferred.
State of CT (or other comparable from another state) Telecommunications Operator Certification, and or other related.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this class may be required to work a schedule that includes weekends, evenings and holidays.
Incumbents in this class may be required to receive certification as a Telecommunicator within one (1) year of appointment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
A physical examination may be required by the appointing authority. Applicants must possess normal hearing.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbents of this class may be required to work in tiring positions for long periods of time.
