Description
We are looking for a dependable Heavy Equipment Operator Senior to help keep Lee County's rights-of-way clean and safe. This job mainly operates a mini excavator and other equipment to support daily maintenance work. You will work with a crew or on your own, follow safety rules, and help keep our community looking its best. This position is ideal for someone who excels in hands-on outdoor work, takes pride in operating equipment with precision, and wants to contribute to meaningful public-service work that benefits the community every day. Description

Duties and Responsibilities What You'll Do
- Drive and use heavy equipment, including mini excavators, wheel excavators, dump trucks, loaders, gradealls, skid steers, and lowboy trailers.
- Use chainsaws, pole saws, weed eaters, and other tools for routine maintenance.
- Help plan simple job layouts when needed.
- Use grade and elevation measuring.
- Act as a flagger to keep work zones safe.
- Lay sod occasionally.
- Report any problems on the right-of-way to supervisors.
- Set up safe work zones following traffic safety rules and IMOT guidelines.
- Work alone or with a crew as assigned.
- Fill in for the Crew Supervisor when needed, including recording daily work in Cartegraph, guiding crew members, and updating project managers.
What We're Looking For
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school graduation or a GED
- Three (3) years of heavy equipment or closely related experience
- Ability to work in a safety-sensitive position and comply with DOT Drug & Alcohol testing requirements
- Valid Florida Class "A" Commercial Driver's License with Air Brakes Endorsement.
- This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing under DOT regulations (49 CFR Parts 40 and/or 382).
