Respiratory Therapist

Location: Avera St. Anthony's Hospital Worker Type: Regular Work Shift: Day Shift (United States of America) Pay Range: $28.00 - $42.00 per hour (Actual pay rate dependent upon experience) Position Highlights Day Shift Schedule. Potential $15,000 sign‑on bonus with a 3‑year commitment. Eligible for Avera’s Student Loan Repayment Program (up to $10,000) with monthly contribution of $167. Brief Overview Responsible for assessment, treatment, and management of the cardiopulmonary system for neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, and adults. Proficient in respiratory care modalities including oxygen therapy, airway clearance, blood gases, ventilator setup and monitoring, and may work in the sleep lab. What you will do Evaluate patients to receive, review, interpret, and administer prescribing orders regarding respiratory and cardiopulmonary treatments and tests. Accurately document patient assessment, interventions, and progress in the electronic medical record and submit charges accurately and timely. Evaluate the effectiveness of the plan of care and implement respiratory care plans and interventions to meet the needs of patients in collaboration with the healthcare team. Administer, set up, titrate, maintain, evaluate, and document supplemental oxygen, aerosol therapy, airway clearance techniques, and mechanical ventilator management. Ensure airway patency through suctioning (tracheal, nasal, oral) and assist patients in respiratory or cardiac arrest by performing CPR and emergency airway care. Perfom arterial and capillary punctures, run blood gas samples, electrolytes, and lactic acid tests, and operate the blood gas analyzer. Assist in pulmonary rehabilitation by providing appropriate exercises and education to participants. Assist in outpatient clinic as needed and schedule sleep studies, obtaining prior authorizations when applicable. Conduct diagnostic testing: pulmonary function, stress exercise, electrocardiograms, electroencephalograms, oximetry, holter, and cardiac event monitoring. Instruct clinical staff on respiratory therapy equipment and EKG equipment usage. Assist with implementing and updating policies, quality assurance reports, equipment maintenance, and supply ordering. Essential Qualifications Ability to work the specified hours. Adequate visual acuity and effective communication skills. Capability to perform essential job functions, including those requiring hearing, understanding, and distinguishing speech and other sounds. Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience Respiratory Therapist – active state license upon hire. Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) – National Board for Respiratory Care, upon hire. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – National Board for Respiratory Care, upon hire. Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience Bachelor’s degree with 1–3 years of experience.
