Position: Phlebotomist II

Schedule: Full Time, Days 7:00am - 6:00pm - Off Wednesdays

Department: Family Medicine

Location: King, NC

As a Phlebotomist, you'll be responsible for collecting high-quality blood specimens while creating a positive patient experience from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections on patients of all ages.
  • Verify patient identity using established safety protocols before specimen collection.
  • Label, process, and prepare specimens for laboratory testing while maintaining specimen integrity.
  • Ensure accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Follow infection prevention, OSHA, HIPAA, and safety guidelines at all times.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked phlebotomy work areas.
  • Provide compassionate, professional care while helping patients feel comfortable during procedures.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely patient care.
  • Troubleshoot difficult blood draws using appropriate techniques.
  • Monitor inventory and notify leadership when supplies need replenishing.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain competency through ongoing education.

Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. Bachelor's Degree, preferred.

  • Experience: One year of relevant phlebotomy experience, preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: ASCP, ASPT, AMT or NHA, required.
  • Additional Skills (required): Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform full range of laboratory tasks. Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, hospital staff and the public. Ability to follow written protocols. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate clearly.
