Culinary Lab Assistant

Culinary Lab Position

Compensation Range: $20.35 - $31.87

Position Summary: Hiring compensation range: $20.35 to $22.38 per hour depending on qualifications.

Job Summary: The position monitors and coordinates the activities of and provides support and assistance to assigned laboratories to enable effective and safe lab operations.

Culinary Lab Duties:

• Oversee the daily operations of the culinary kitchen laboratory.
• Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations as part of Department of Health inspections.
• Coordinate maintenance, repairs, and equipment service requests.
• Monitor and maintain kitchen equipment, supplies, and inventory levels.
• Assist with laboratory setup and preparation for instructional activities.
• Pick up products for the kitchen lab from outside vendors on a regular basis (must have reliable transportation).

Curriculum and Faculty Support:

• Collaborate with faculty members on menu planning and following lesson plans.
• Research and identify recipes that align with course objectives and lesson plans.
• Scale and adapt recipes to meet instructional and production needs.
• Provide administrative and operational support to faculty members.
• Assist professors with departmental projects, classroom needs, and special requests.
• Coordinate Field Trip Visits

Purchasing and Budget Management:

• Manage departmental purchasing and inventory processes.
• Order food products, dry goods, kitchen supplies, and other materials needed for instruction.
• Monitor purchases and assist in maintaining departmental budgets.
• Communicate with vendors to obtain pricing, track deliveries, and resolve purchasing issues.
• Maintain purchasing records and inventory documentation.

Student Services and Coordination:

• Coordinate student uniform fittings and distribution.
• Ensure students receive required uniforms and supplies prior to class participation.
• Monitor and maintain student attendance records.
• Assist students with departmental processes, information, and resources.
• Support student engagement and contribute to a positive learning environment.

Administrative Operations:

• Organize and maintain departmental files and documentation.
• Communicate effectively with faculty, students, vendors, and campus departments through email, Microsoft Teams, and other communication platforms.
• Schedule meetings and coordinate departmental activities as needed.
• Prepare reports, spreadsheets, and other administrative documents.
• Utilize Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams, to support departmental operations.
• Maintain accurate electronic records and databases.
• Assist with the preparation of presentations, reports, and departmental communications.

Minimum Qualifications: The position requires at least an Associate's Degree or two-year College equivalent (at least 60 undergraduate hours) and at least one year of prior-related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in culinary arts
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
