Position Specifics We are searching for a Mechanical Engineering Technologist to join our Mechanical and Electrical Design Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL’s purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). In this role you will utilize intermediate level abilities in Drafting and 3‑D Modeling. ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply. Responsibilities Assist research engineering programs needing mechanical design support through collaboration with R&D Engineers and Engineering Support Specialists. Participate in meetings and design reviews. Collaborate to address design, material, and component needs; assist in the resolution of issues. Use accepted standards, methods, and techniques to create intermediate 3D solid models for fabricated parts, assemblies, and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) parts. Create 2D detail drawings for intermediate fabrication parts/assemblies using accepted standards, methods and techniques; may also create schematic/BOM documents. Perform Service Center tasks related to documentation control, copying, archiving (.stp and .x_t), and database entry. Utilize ARL’s Project Lifecycle Management (PLM) software (Teamcenter) to properly archive and perform configuration management of all design documentation. Maintain all required compliance training related to business systems, safety, and security. Build on your knowledge of design software features, techniques, standards, and specifications (particularly ASME Y 14.5). Provide work status updates to senior personnel and engineering staff. Required Skills/Experience Familiarity with mechanical systems and components. Layout and design using CAD software for component creation. Ability to create 2D detail drawings for fabrication parts and assemblies. Ability to create 3D parametric solid models which are fully constrained. Preferred Skills/Experience Siemens NX CAD experience. Experience with Siemens Teamcenter PLM tool. Certification or familiarization with ASME Y14.5. Experience in Microsoft Office and Adobe products. Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher; may be subject to a government background investigation to upgrade clearance eligibility, if required. Work Location These positions are required to be 100% on-site, but options may exist for a hybrid work-from-office and work-from-home scenario dependent upon research requirements. Minimum Education, Work Experience & Certifications For Engineering Technologist – Advanced Professional: Bachelor’s Degree, 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted. Required Certifications: None. For Engineering Technologist – Intermediate Professional: Bachelor’s Degree, 1+ year of relevant experience. Required Certifications: None. Salary & Benefits The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $61,800.00 – $102,300.00. The proposed salary range may be impacted by geographic differential.
