Controller

Robert Half

A growing advanced manufacturing organization is looking to add a hands-on Controller to its leadership team.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being close to the business, building stronger financial processes, and partnering directly with executive leadership in a growth-oriented environment.

The company operates in a highly technical manufacturing space, supporting complex products and customers.

About the opportunity:

The Controller will oversee the accounting and finance function while helping improve financial reporting, cost visibility, operational analysis, and overall scalability. This person will be heavily involved in day-to-day accounting, but will also play a key role in helping leadership make better business decisions through stronger reporting, forecasting, and financial discipline.

This is not a “sit behind the desk and close the books” type of role. It is better suited for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, understanding manufacturing operations, and creating better visibility into margins, inventory, labor, overhead, and project/customer profitability.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the accounting function, including month-end close, financial reporting, general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and cash management

• Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

• Building and improving operational reporting, KPIs, job costing, and margin analysis

• Partnering with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning

• Overseeing inventory accounting, cost accounting, standard costing, and variance analysis

• Improving accounting processes, internal controls, and financial procedures

• Supporting cash flow management, working capital planning, and capital expenditure analysis

• Working with outside partners including auditors, banks, tax advisors, and other professional service providers

• Supporting pricing, contract profitability, and operational decision-making

• Helping optimize ERP reporting, system usage, and process improvements

• Ensuring compliance with GAAP and any applicable industry or customer reporting requirements

• Mentoring accounting team members and helping build a more scalable finance function

Ideal background:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

• 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience

• Prior Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Cost Accounting Manager, or manufacturing finance leadership experience

• Manufacturing experience strongly preferred

• Engineered products, industrial manufacturing, or contract manufacturing experience would be a plus

• Strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory accounting, manufacturing variances, and operational finance

• ERP system experience

• CPA and/or MBA is a plus, but not required

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with operations and executive leadership

• Comfortable operating at both the strategic and tactical level

Why this could be a strong fit:

• High visibility role with direct access to executive leadership

• Opportunity to improve and shape the finance function during a growth phase

• Hands-on environment where your work will have a visible impact

• Exposure to technical manufacturing

• Strong opportunity for someone who wants to be more than just “the accounting person” and truly partner with the business

This could be a great fit for a manufacturing finance professional who wants ownership, visibility, and the opportunity to help build better financial infrastructure as the company continues to grow.
