Senior Director, Engineering

Senior Director of Engineering – Smithfield Foods As the Senior Director of Engineering, you will manage and execute capital projects across our manufacturing locations, ensuring the highest value and compliance with standards and regulations. You will lead an Engineering leadership team, shape and communicate the strategic vision for engineering and technical operations, and directly contribute to our mission to responsibly supply families with nutritious food. Responsibilities Ensure successful execution of capital projects by managing processes, maintaining compliance, and overseeing vendors, contractors, and engineering service providers. Oversee capital programs at manufacturing facilities, improving cost, quality, service, and safety in collaboration with Production Engineering Leadership. Develop and implement project‑management standards aligned with company and regulatory requirements. Support strategic planning and continuous improvement to deliver value across the organization. Lead and manage teams in Maintenance, Capital Project Management, Infrastructure, and Engineering Services; drive business objectives and deliver solutions on time. Partner with Human Resources to implement leadership development programs and enhance performance, fostering a diverse, high‑performing team. Promote a culture of safety, communication, empowerment, and recognition. Identify and evaluate new automation and technologies to improve manufacturing and distribution; assess feasibility and optimize equipment and infrastructure. Develop and implement long‑term plans to improve productivity and meet customer and quality standards; share best practices across business units. Ensure processes meet high operational standards and quality requirements. Promote food and safety programs to ensure safe project execution and regulatory compliance. Manage capital project budgets; ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. Support development of capital plans and ensure proper project preparation and execution. Drive a positive employee experience through leadership, employee development, and coaching. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 12+ years of experience in engineering management, with at least 5 years in a leadership position including team development. Proven project‑management experience, including leading multiple, complex, major capital investments. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and SAP. Excellent interpersonal, technical, and presentation skills. Willingness to travel to other locations (approximately 50% of time). Physical Demands & Work Environment Mobility: frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying materials up to 50 pounds. Standing: up to eight hours per day during site visits or meetings.
