Job Description

Job Summary:

Lead the delivery of academic affairs operations including faculty support, curriculum management and training.

Job-Specific Responsibilities:

·       Faculty Recruitment and Course Development: Establish and maintain relationships with academic departments, recruit faculty, and meet with faculty members expressing interest in teaching engaged scholarship courses and courses for the College’s Certificate for Civic Engagement.  Work with staff and student leaders of public service offices and organizations to leverage existing public service programs and community relationships to experiential course components whenever possible.  Oversee the distribution of funds to faculty to develop new courses.

·       Support for Faculty and Teaching Staff : Support faculty teaching courses in Mindich courses and other engaged scholarship through regular convening of faculty and TFs for practical course support and to create a community of practice for engaged scholarship and civic/experiential learning.

·       Student Advisory Committee : Oversee the undergraduate Student Advisory Committee for engaged scholarship. Advise students on engaged scholarship opportunities.

·       Program promotion and assessment . Develop and update written and online materials promoting opportunities in the Program in Engagement Scholarship.  Maintain an updated list of engaged scholarship courses and promote these opportunities to students. Develop and update evaluation metrics, collect data and communicate this information in reports and promotional materials.

·       Certificate for Civic Engagement : Support the Certificate for Civic Engagement and participate in the OUE oversight committee.

·       Experiential Learning: Work with the OUE to support new opportunities for civic engagement and experiential learning, including climate education.

·       OUE initiatives : Working with the Senior Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Education, Curriculum and Special Programs, participate in and support academic programs and policy initiatives in the Office of Undergraduate Education.

Working Conditions:

The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs and objectives and consistent with College Policy, which requires 5 days on-site in Cambridge, MA during term time (first day of classes through commencement), with the exception of student breaks. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details about the College policy will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.

Physical Requirements:

• Sitting using near vision use for reading and computer use for extended periods of time
• Lifting (approximately 20 to 30 pounds), bending, and other physical exertion

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
• Minimum of 7 years’ relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

·       Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and senior leadership.

·       Strong project management skills.

·       Knowledge of and commitment to the liberal arts and sciences curriculum in order to leverage existing opportunities and create new opportunities for experiential learning, broadly conceived.

·       Collaborative work style.

·       Knowledge of Harvard technology and data systems and ability to suggest and promote necessary changes.

·       Knowledge of the curriculum and ongoing curricular changes in Harvard College.

·       Background and work experience in faculty development and training, including pedagogy training.
