Plant Operator

At Air Products, we are looking for a highly motivated and safety‑conscious Operations Technician to work at our SantaClara, CA facility. The role requires daily control and monitoring of nitrogen, oxygen, and argon production processes, including steam systems, compressors, rotating equipment, and Distributed Control System operations. Key Responsibilities Participate in the basic safety process and share responsibility for the site’s overall safety performance. Follow, update, and maintain operating procedures to ensure safety and operational efficiency. Issue safety work permits and perform lock‑out/tag‑out of process equipment. Calibrate analyzers for multiple processes. Perform routine maintenance on plant equipment and assist technicians with mechanical repairs, instrument calibrations, and electrical troubleshooting. Provide troubleshooting expertise for production units. Supervise trailer loading operations and train loading personnel. Adhere to strict product quality guidelines. Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent required; two‑year associate degree in a technical field is a plus. Minimum two years of plant process experience preferred; process technology degree/certification highly desired. Experience in operations or a military background is a plus. Electrical, instrument, or mechanical maintenance experience a plus. Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and operational excellence. Self‑starter with a strong work ethic. Ability to read and interpret piping schematics, diagrams, instrumentation drawings, and DCS manuals. Knowledge of water chemistry testing, manual and pneumatic valve operation, and lock‑out/tag‑out procedures. Physical & Work‑Shift Requirements Must be able to climb ladders and steps, lift up to 50lbs, and work at elevations. Must tolerate high noise levels. Required to work 12‑hour rotating shifts, be on call during weekdays and weekends, and work overtime as needed. Compensation Starting rate of $51.18 per hour for an 8‑hour shift, with potential overtime and bonus. Ladder position with advancement opportunities.
